Laws for Animal Cruelty in MD ????

ArkRescue

Adopt me please !
There are so many ranging from cats, dogs, and other pets, that my opinion on which laws is not relevant - what matters most is which laws on the website you are most passionate about. I'm not trying to further my own agenda here.

What laws do you find lacking and how do you think they should be changed?

I have recently been made aware that the actual laws in MD to punish those who abuse animals in MD are few, and those laws that exist are not strong enough.

Get over yourself, its an Animal ....

Great News for Maryland's Deer

Guest blogger Joseph Lamp, Ph.D., Wildlife Advisory Commission:

Fawn in flowersOur decades of prayers have been answered. I can now report that on September 29, 2009, the United States Environmental Protection Agency approved drug #56228-40, GonaCon, a gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) immunocontraceptive vaccine for white-tail deer, developed by the National Wildlife Research Center. This EPA approval sets the state for ConaCon's actual usage in the public domain, and it is not longer merely an "experimental drug" with all the caveats previously surround it as such. No longer can anyone make the argument that you must kill the deer to control them as the only viable management option.

hmm. I believe most "cruelty" laws involve intentional harming and torture of an animal. I can't believe anyone would think that it is perfectly healthy to torture a helpless animal..no matter what you think of said animal.

I'd like to see increased penalties for intentionally releasing invasive species.

So would birds, squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits

:yay: Come to think of it, my dog could have been considered an invasive specie too (especially to the squirrels) but he's getting older and has lost a step. All critters in my yard are much happier now.

You dog lives in your home. If it was running wild, killing deer, etc to survive, it would be an invasive species.
