Genesis 29:31 When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive, but Rachel remained childless. 32 Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, “It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.”
33 She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Because the Lord heard that I am not loved, he gave me this one too.” So she named him Simeon.
34 Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.
35 She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” So she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children.
Here's that link to the commentary I use.

Leah tried to be a "good wife".

Leah gave Jacob four sons, while trying to be the "good wife".

Rachel, on the other hand, was beautiful, but she just did not get pregnant.

How horrible, Leah was married for life to a man that didn't love her.

Abraham [Jacob's grandfather] taught that marriage is from God and once girl is married, she is married for life to that one man.

Now men could have more than one wife... but a woman could only have one man... as long as that man lived.

Remember, when Abraham [Jacob's grandfather] got with Sarah, Abraham split a bunch of animals in two and laid them just so. That was the contract of marriage.

Leah didn't decide to lie with Jacob. Her father put her in that spot.

As a matter of fact, Rachel didn't ask to get married. She hardly knew the man!!!

Leah and Rachel were just children when Jacob showed up. That's how it worked. Women were "betrothed" or sold to the guy with the biggest dowry.

Leah had no say in the matter! She was married by contract. It wasn't even the contract Jacob thought he was working under. Jacob lusted after Rachel, not Leah. It was the scent of Rachel that kept him working for Laban. He thought he was earning Rachel's dowry. Laban is the one that threw Leah in his bed that night. Leah was raped.... she was unloved.

Leah was probably just in her teens when she was shoved in the tent with Jacob. Rachel was younger, but old enough to shepherd the flock, so she would have been 12-13 years old... and Leah was older... so, she must have been really weak in the eyes [or just plain Butt ugly] since she was still unwed in her teens!

Oh, don't get all uppity..... My grandmother was 13 when she married my granddad. I remember when the "age" kids had to be before they could get married was a big deal on the news. Before the passing of the Marriage Act in 1961 there was no age requirement. I was 11 when that bill was passed. I don't think my dad would have "sold" me off for the dowry if the law didn't require him to hold out until I either got pregnant or turned 18, but it would have been legal.

Leah was a child when she was "given" to Jacob. She was not consulted in the matter.

Leah had four sons for Jacob. Leah hoped that giving him sons would make him love her. It didn't.

We are told, the marriage bed is for two people in love.

Leah was not loved.... Leah was raped... taken advantage of. Leah was "convenient".

Leah's convenience gave Jacob 4 sons.

Leah's loveless marriage....
