WILLIAMSPORT, Md. (AP) - A GST AutoLeather Inc. employee was killed when she was pulled into the rollers of a machine, officials said.
Deanna L. Stottlemyer, 37, of Martinsburg, W.Va., was working Wednesday at a spraying machine, which puts a base coat of color into hides used for leather at the plant near Williamsport.

"She was working in the back part of the machine, got caught under a roller and died instantly," said Dr. Edward W. Ditto III, deputy medical examiner for Washington County.

A county sheriff's deputy said the spraying machine, which takes four people to operate, was shut down after the accident. Bobby Colvin, president of a union at the plant, said employees scheduled to work the next shift were sent home.

"All of us at GST AutoLeather are greatly saddened and emotionally devastated about the apparent accident that has taken the life of one of our workers today," plant officials said in a statement.

The Maryland Occupational Safety and Health agency was investigating, authorities said.
