...have this in here before? It's a good piece.

Dunno. If it was, I totally missed it.

Up until this one, I thought we were doing a decent job of stealing the best and brightest across the globe - and thus, legal immigration was a good thing, because we weren't importing your tired poor huddled masses - we were grabbing scientists and doctors. This demo demonstrates well enough that that doesn't matter, because there's an upper limit on our nations ability to sustained immigration - that in a finite environment, you just can't keep stuffing in more people.

I still think ILLEGAL makes it just as bad - and you'll notice those numbers aren't even IN the demo. I just didn't have any idea that legal immigration had been boosted so much in the 60's.

Money. Legal immigrants create revenue I would think. I can't watch the video.

Find a way. It's very good.

The premise is that U.S. population growth CAN absorb a lower level of immigration and continue to provide a good middle class for everyone - and that during the years from the 20's to the 60's, the moderate immigration level kept that going.

Now while it's true that immigrants create revenue, in the short run they cost a lot more in infrastructure demands - and if THEY also create the increase in population that the U.S. wouldn't otherwise incur, the infrastructure demand gets worse.

We used to be able to snag the smart, hard-working talent who attended our colleges from foreign countries and keep them here. Now the global economy makes it easy for them to return home and become millionaires and still live in their own accustomed culture. Read THE WORLD IS FLAT to see that we can no longer rely on the cherry-picking we used to.
