Hey Catt, what can you tell me about this condition? It appears this is possibly what Dallas has. I googled it but wasnt satisfied with what I found. If Dallas peed in my yard , can my kittys catch this. They said its urine based

I think they can...as can humans..although cats generally don't get it.

Dogs get vaccinated for that, but I suppose there could be different strains and not all vaccines are 100%

Don't you have a male shepherd?

If I were you, I'd consult your cats' veterinarian.

Isn't that part of the combo distemper shot?

My 10 yr old Shepherd passed away in June. Right now I dont have a dog but I am scheduled to go look at a puppy tonight. The kittys have all had vaccines. I am just concerned about bring a new puppy here because Dallas spent many hours at my house over Thanksgiving. So far (knock wood) the kittys seem fine.

I got this for my dogs when someone told me her dog got really sick from it. They don't generally offer it, you have to ask for it and then they give the distemper w/ the lepto vaccine included. I know this because they had to leave the room to get another vaccine and return the original one they brought in. I think when it is included with the distemper there is no extra fee.

I don't know if it is considered a "female" problem though. Most dogs get it from playing with balls/toys that have been left in free standing dirty water and things of that nature. I think antibiotics over a period of time will cure it but it takes a while. I certainly do not think that you should put a dog down for it and from the vet she seems to be going to, she should get a second opinion! I have never heard of a vet being so cold as to say basically "bring me money by the end of the day or we will have to put her down"

I take my dogs to Three Notch Veterinary clinic and they are GREAT! Even when my oldest JR has to be muzzled to stop her from biting them.

We don't vaccinate rotts for it until they are older than 16 weeks, it's very hard on the immune system I know of one rottie whose eyes turned emerald green within 24 hours after the vaccine and never turned brown again. Also, when small breed dogs like pugs/bostons have a reaction to a vaccine, 9 times out of 10 it's going to be the Lepto that caused it. We had one whose face/head swelled up so bad we didn't think he'd make it to the vet in time - we did cause of the police cruiser and all major highways in between  but they told us never to use vaccines with lepto in them again for him. I believe the cat lepto and dog lepto are slightly different strains.

Now that I think about it, vet recommended against it for Abbey and Biscuit because of reactions and Boxers have sensitivity to many drugs and vaccines. Every time they got their shots, she made sure we had the name of the emergecy vet, as well as her home phone number, in the event of a reaction.

I have given my boxers shots for 20 yrs...all my pups..one lady over 15 yrs ago wanted her pup a little early...her pick of litter she was moving..I wanted her to wait and let me ship her the pup. Anyway she insisted..she took the pup to the vet at 4 weeks for its first shot..(I do it at 7 weeks) she brought me back a larthargic puppy that was dead in an hour. I put it in the puppy box and called her to call her vet to see what was up and when I went back the pup was dead. I have (knock on wood) never lost a pup to a vaccine that I gave..knocking more..There were only 2 pups in that litter and she said well you will give me the other one right............Right? :biteme: also never do pick of litter again either..pay cash and be done with it.....so sad..
WTF...:yikes: You let her take a 4 week old pup from it's mother...:yikes:
