Outstanding!! I agree with mom's tactics over the "expert's" tactics.
IMO there isn't any better way to learn empathy than personal experience.

I laughed at the so called expert's advice. If she is teasing the girl at school that relentlessly, what is to say she would get anything out of forced volunteering. She may witness it on a larger scale, but in the end she probably wouldn't really understand what it feels like. Good on the mother here, nothing will hit it home more than experiencing the same humiliation the other child probably feels.

No kidding. If the kid's response to mom's solution was to become even MORE angry, what would be the point of forcing her to do community service towards people she would normally humiliate and ridicule?
