Luke 13:31 At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.”
32 He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’ 33 In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!
34 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. 35 Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
These verses need to be opened up. Not all Pharisees wanted to do away with Jesus. Apparently, there were some with the knowledge and humility to adore the King of Kings. They warned Jesus. Herod the Tetrarch is the guy who ordered John the Baptist's head on a platter for his stepdaughter after her pole dance. Herod's father was the one who ordered the slaughter of all male babies born in and around Bethlehem because the "Wise Men" told him about the Messiah and the Star.
Now, this Herod, son of the murderer, is also a murderer, who slayed John the Baptist, and he thinks Jesus is after him. He thinks John the Baptist came back to life in Jesus and John is stalking him. He has a guilty conscience.
Remember, back in the days of Jesus, if the father did something wrong, the son was required to pay for it.... and the son's son, and that son's son, and on and on.
Jesus told the Pharisees, "I have a job to do, and I have to be in Jerusalem to complete it."
Jesus was on His way to the Cross, on purpose. He needed to get on the Cross, into the tomb, and raise again. That was how He would bring eternal life to the followers. Jesus was on a mission, and He had no time for moronic humans like Herod the Tetrarch.
Jesus was there to do something kind for the humans. The humans were fighting Him.
Have you seen any of those videos of animals caught in a trap? Have you seen them biting at those who are working to free them? That's what I see described in the last verse. Sometimes you can't rescue an animal until they let you!
Sometimes you can't rescue humans until they let you.
Jesus said, "Let me rescue you!"
