Let's have an argument!

People use that argument all the time but what typically happens is traffic is bumper to bumper and some ass zips to the front in the ending lane and forces his way in. Used to see it all the time on 235N after the light at 4.
True, but traffic slows after the light instead of before the light and reduces blocking the intersection. Zipper merge is safer for all, including those who line up before the intersection then run the yellow/red when the light changes

But that's the point that person you're calling an ass is doing it properly. And if the people in the ongoing lane as they approach the end, open up a gap between them. That person can view between them with no heartache or trauma and everybody gets to keep moving faster.

So having just spent a week in California I got a bit jealous of the folks in motorcycles being legally allowed to split lanes. Now to be clear, legally splitting the lanes is not going between two lines of traffic going 45 at. 75. Where it's legal, the rules usually restrict you to no more than 10 mph faster than the flow that you're splitting.

While I can agree with most of your posts, you are an idiot about the above. It's bumper to bumper traffic and he/she is saying eff you, I'm going to the front rather than blend in. When you know the lane is ending, blend in prior to the end rather than pushing your way in at the end of the lane. Nothing you can say changes my mind.

I have found it beneficial to tool around in my dilapidated ford ranger with my senior citizen decals, ( senior citizen, please be patient) left turn signal on, wearing aviator sunglasses like you know who….

yep...fact.

In congested traffic, "last minute merging," also known as the zipper merge, is actually the most efficient and safest way to merge lanes. Drivers should use both lanes until the designated merge point and then take turns merging, similar to the teeth of a zipper. This method helps to reduce congestion, prevent bottlenecks, and keep traffic flowing smoothly.

You can have that opinion and I don't expect this to change your mind. But my point is that that adversarial point of view is what stops it from working. What's in their head doesn't matter. Using all of that lane space until the moment of merge is what matters. Getting cars per hour throughput is what matters. Hell, I'm from Mass, the home of the azzhole driver where using a turn signal is considered giving information to the enemy, and giving up lane space is considered as a cowardly act, and I get it.

When you see it work, you get it. If that lane is empty except for the one car coming up, its because people who cannot think selflessly for a mintue have conditioned them that they will be stranded by *******s who think they know what's in other peoples mind. Like some guy wandering the park aggressively getting in other peoples faces because he is afraid they might attack if he doesn't.

I'm 100% sure that is why people consciously get into the lane that ends in 500FT and then stomp on the gas as soon as the light turns green like its MIR. It's not to try to get ahead of everyone... its because it's the right thing to do and they want to properly zipper merge.

I used to be married to "that guy". We'd argue all the time about letting someone in - he'd fume and jockey specifically to prevent them from getting over. It's like, why? When I'd drive I'd slow and wave to let someone on a side street make their turn and he'd lose his mind. "No! NO!! They can wait like everyone else!!!" It's like, why do you care, there's a whole line of cars that aren't going anywhere, what's the big deal about letting this guy in? "No! NO!!! :burning: "

they are EVERYWHERE around here.....and based on Grumpy's reaction, he thinks it's hilarious. You fight idiots on 235, then you fight more idiots on 4 to the bridge, and after you're through that nightmare of a gauntlet, you have the "junior deputies" who think it's their jobs to regulate traffic who will sit in the left lane next to a vehicle and block up the traffic. Self important ass clowns that obviously have nothing better to do with their time.

I've lived in 9 different states all over the country, and the only place worse than Maryland with asshat drivers is Boston or LA. Everywhere else people have at least some brains.

am i aruging correctly? :lmao:

Everyone knows you tailgate in order to block the clowns trying to cut in from the left.

Don't be "let em' in" guy!

In AZ Monello and I made a game - "where they from?" See someone driving like an idiot, where they from? Invariably it was California.

If you want us to zipper in the US then change your signage and cones/white lines! Right lane closed sign tells me to get over as soon as I see the sign and the cones. A zipper sign and cones in both lanes trying to form one lane tells me to use either lane until it's time to zipper. Pretty damn simple in my opinion.

Except when the right lane closed ahead sign is a mile away from the lane closure. A mile of road can hold a lot of cars. Seems a lot smarter and efficient to zipper move instead of everyone moving over and leaving that mile of road open. I dont need instructions posted on how to drive. Its pretty damn simple to think it out on my own.

The zipper thing also depends upon there being space in between the vehicles.

Most of the asshats that drive around here, ride the bumper of the car in front of them.
