Hi guys!

So, do you have any of your horses insured?
Who do you use, do you like them, do you think you're paying a fair price or is it a good deal, what (mortality, loss of use, etc.) is covered, how did you estimate your horse's worth, good/bad experiences....

Interested mainly in personal horse ownership (i.e., liability and mortality, etc) versus horse farm coverage. However anybody's insight is helpful for the sake of knowing what's out there!

Kalblow out of New York. Found them in the AQHA Journal. They have beeen doing it for years. It is based on pursed price and any investment, like training. Or stud fee.

Markel Insurance

Very easy to deal with, no hassles, no problems with them. Pricing was very good as well. I think their website is horseinsurance.com .

Forgot to add details...I only did mortality to keep my cost down, as I have my horses at home and am able to control every aspect of their health (unlike at a boarding/lesson farm etc.). The company can help you estimate your horse's worth, but when I had insurance with Markel, you could put any price up to 30k on your horse as long as it is justified somehow. If you have a well-bred horse, an easy way to estimate is to go by the sire's stud fee and add in the value of training and success in competitions.
