Ex-White House Aide Libby Drops Appeal in Leak Case (Update2)

"`Scooter'' Libby, the former vice presidential aide whose sentence for lying in the CIA leak case was commuted by President George W. Bush, is dropping his appeal.

Libby's attorney, Theodore Wells, said he filed papers in federal court in Washington today asking that the appeal be dismissed.

``We remain fully convinced of Mr. Libby's innocence,'' Wells said in a statement. ``The burden on Mr. Libby and his young family of continuing to pursue his complete vindication are too great to ask them to bear.'' "

You don't need an appeal when a pardon is on the way.

The commutation left in place a $250,000 fine, a requirement for 400 hours of community service and two years of supervised release. Libby paid the fine, and until today he was appealing the criminal conviction that remained on the books.

We have already gone through the discussion of the difference between what Bush did (commutation) and what Bush didn't (pardon).

Who is Bush's counterpart to Clinton's Tony Rodham? Wonder how much a pardon will cost? We know what the Clinton's charge.
