Just to point out the stunningly obvious: the question is "if the president or somebody else was to name the whistleblower in the Ukrainian situation, that person would be guilty of a crime", not anything about "retaliation" or "reprisal". Try to keep up.

Care to point where naming an anonymous whistleblower is illegal? In fact, nowhere in the Whistleblower Protection Act of 1989 or Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2012 does the word "anonymous" appear.
