President Trump’s education boss Linda McMahon has defended the administration’s decision to resume student loan debt collections — insisting that greedy colleges have “profited massively” from Biden-era forgiveness measures. The Department of Education announced Monday it would start recouping federal student repayments again from May 5 from the roughly 5.3 million borrowers who are currently in default on their loans.

I paid mine off. Took me all of 10 years, even with consolidation, but that was an income issue, because the loans weren't huge.

I say we don't let them vote until their loans are paid off.

I was taught that any money I brought in was not my money until any debts were either eliminated, or brought current.

Apparently, parents don't teach their children that basic fact.

So when do we reform the lending rules so we're not subsidizing billions in loans to degrees that have no hope in hell of leading to employment that can let them pay it back?
As long as demonrat politicians and chronic race-baiters have any say whatsoever, we don't.

Also the cost of college is absurd. Even some doohickey 13th grade is exorbitant, and the kid walks away only qualified to ask if you want fries with that.

Of course it is. Once the edu-industrial complex realized the govt opened the gates for unlimited lending for BS degrees, they found ways to spend. Amenities and administration.

Exactly. To make things worse the Government will not hire people without a college degree, ANY degree. It doesn't have o be specific to their job. Just a degree. That's fricking ridiculous.

Not entirely true, most of the time you got to know someone to get in the government. Plus I personally know of GS13-15's with no degrees.

I know several -13s without degrees but, that seems to be the ceiling. All of the 14-15s I know DO have degrees. YMMV.

Welp, I'm one of those rare GS15's without a degree (just some college classes) and I know of a few other 14-15's in my agency without them. Maybe our prior military (retired) got us over the hump? ;)

Well , perhaps they are older folks who got in before the condition was set.

Not true, I work with quite a few electronics technicians that do quite well.

Military experience is a huge plus however.

GS-12 is their normal ceiling, really excellent electronics techs can get the bump to GS-13, but it's pretty rare.

This aligns with what I have been told and know. Essentially, no degree makes it practically (not DEFINITELY) impossible to break through to the 14 level.
I'd be interested in knowing what StadEMS3's job description is. And the others they claim are 14/15s.
