A quick primer: The slick whistle who founded and runs Occupy Democrats is a youngish guy named Omar Rivero. Occupy Democrats, according to his LinkedIn page, is:

OmarRivera-730x212.jpg

What they are is a snarky, hateful little bunch of authoritarian trolls. An example:

OccupyDems-558x730.jpg

But Omar and his brother have amassed quite a loyal following of similarly charitable and rational Leftists, who also pony over funds to help further their chosen pet projects. They are good at raising money.

According to what another really liberal fellow on Twitter figured out after rooting through their financial filings on Open Secrets, they’re really good at keeping it in-house, too.

Not a penny to any federal candidate? How odd, when the very PAC name itself implies it’s an election “fund” for just that purpose.

Humpf. Where’d the money go, and don’t we seem to ask that a bunch around Democratic activist groups? Let’s see. Oh, lookee here! A fair chunk of change went to – take a wild guess, come on – brother and co-founder Rafael Rivero!

Cha-CHING! Isn’t that grand? Lachlan Markay pointed out that Rivero, in denying anything amiss, actually misspoke about his own Occupy Democrats Election Fund PAC’s structure.

The city’s Office of Inspector General requested documents from FTNO to determine how the hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Wisner Trust are being spent. FTNO was using money from the multi-million dollar Wisner Family Land Trust. That trust is a century-old fund that pays the City of New Orleans millions of dollars each year. It has paid millions to agencies that have done everything from trying to stop gun violence to assisting those who couldn’t pay rent.

The New Orleans City Council went to court to freeze all further spending from the trust fund.

“We don’t know where the money has been going because it’s been handled by a private board since 2020,” said Councilman Joe Giarusso.
“I think their belief is that the money is being diverted to private sources that have a connection to the mayor and they just can’t see it,” said Dr. Robert Collins, with Dillard University’s School of Public Policy.
While the investigation continues, no payments are being made to any FTNO members.
During 2020 the organization was active in providing services to the community and residents who were impacted by COVID in terms of financial services that people could not meet individually due to the pandemic,” said former board member Silas Lee. “That was a critical time not only in New Orleans but nationwide, many community groups stepped up to fill a void in terms of services to meet the quality of life needs of citizens.”
Lee says his term as board member ran out earlier this year unrelated to the OIG’s investigation.
“The lack of transparency definitely creates suspicion because we’ve seen so much other lack of transparency with this administration,” said Collins.

A recall petition had been filed against Mayor Cantrell even before this latest scandal. New Orleans the highest per capita murder rate and a shortage of police officers. The mayor threatened to cancel Mardi Gras before she had to almost immediately walk that nonsense back.

Then there’s the matter of Mayor Cantrell flying first class when all her staff and security people fly coach when she travels overseas. She is being told to reimburse the city for her excess expenses but she has refused to do so. She claims she has to fly first class because of “the world Black women walk in.” That’s right. When all else fails, throw the race card. What about the black women on her staff and security detail?

The mayor has not exactly covered herself in glory with her management skills. More often than not, she comes off as tone-deaf and unaware of what is going on in the city.

WaPo gives Sen. Patty Murray 'Four Pinocchios' for saying Republicans plan to 'end' Social Security, Medicare

The Washington Post handed down four "Pinocchios" to Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., for her claim warning of the "end" Social Security and Medicare if Republicans take control of Congress.

Murray, who is fighting in a tightening reelection battle against GOP challenger Tiffany Smiley, tweeted on Sunday, "Republicans plan to end Social Security and Medicare if they take back the Senate."

Glenn Kessler, the Post's fact-checker, characterized Murray's tweet as a "'Mediscare' attack" to win over senior voters.

What Ted Cruz and Tucker Carlson Don’t Understand About War

The persistence of the Putin-Cruz-Carlson vision of war is surprising, because we have decades, even centuries, of evidence to the contrary. Since the Industrial Revolution, and in many ways before, the ability to run a complex system has been the cornerstone of strategic success. Though much military popular literature likes to stress the human drama of combat—the bravery and sacrifice, the cowardice and atrocity—it is not nearly as important in victory or defeat as many people assume. In state-to-state wars—a category that includes the current Russian invasion of Ukraine as well as broader conflicts such as the two world wars—the side that can most efficiently deploy more effective equipment operated by better-trained personnel has typically emerged victorious.

The combination of education and technology overcame brute force during World War II, when the most militarily skillful and adaptable countries—the United States and the United Kingdom—were able to fight their enemies at a relatively small cost in casualties. The U.K., even though it fought around the world from 1939 to 1945, lost only 384,000 soldiers in combat. The U.S. lost even fewer, suffering approximately 290,000 battle deaths. The German armed forces, by contrast, lost more than 4 million soldiers.

That the British and American armed forces kept their casualties comparatively low is especially notable because they were confronted with an overwhelming majority of German arms, planes, and ammunition. Because of the sickening number of human casualties, the fighting on the Eastern Front between the Nazis and Soviets is widely deemed World War II’s largest engagement, but Germany had to send far more of its war production to fight the British and Americans than it did to fight the U.S.S.R.

The Ukrainians are trying, albeit with far fewer advantages, to do to Russia what the U.S. and the U.K. did to Germany. Ukrainian forces have learned to skillfully use advanced weaponry—in this case NATO-standard systems such as HIMARS and HARM missiles—to neutralize the brute strength of the Russian army. They have accomplished this because Ukrainian society is more flexible, technologically conversant, and willing to learn than the Russian invaders are. They have shown more cleverness and wisdom, and over time that advantage has allowed them to start taking the initiative.

Just as the ability to absorb information is better than lunkhead hypermasculinity in a modern army, diversity and societal integration also bring major advantages. As Ukraine has become more diverse and tolerant, its army has benefited. In contrast with Putin’s homophobic military, the Ukrainian armed forces include LGBTQ soldiers who have incorporated “unicorn” insignia into their uniforms. The valor of these soldiers, and the rallying of the Ukrainian people around a vision of a tolerant and diverse society, have led to an overall increase in Ukrainian support for gay rights—and it underscores the belief that everyone has a role to play in the country’s defense.

The Russian experience could not be more different. Putin has made suppressing gay rights one of the hallmarks of his rule. Determined to capitalize on culture-war tropes of the American right, he has portrayed Russia as a victim of cancel culture. He has retained rigid control over Russian society. While the Ukrainians are opening up, he is clamping down—with what we are now seeing as rather extreme results.

NY Attorney General Letitia James’ War On Trump Is Disgracing The Office

She has delivered, culminating in the recently announced civil charges that seek to bar Trump, two of his children, and many of his businesses from doing business in NY State. Even the NY Times recognizes the civil lawsuit may prove a tough sell in court: “Property valuations are often subjective, and … all his loans are either current or were paid off, some before they were due.”

But the merits or lack of merits in the lawsuit obscure the bigger offense here: James has abused her office for political purposes. I tracked this conduct in an op-ed that ran at The Daily Caller today. Here’s an excerpt, head over to the link for the whole thing:

Political neutrality of prosecutors in the conduct of their duties is at the core of what our system of justice should look like. Unfortunately, political neutrality is not what Attorney General Letitia James has delivered.
Instead, James ran for office on a promise to get Donald Trump on something, anything, and has conducted herself in office to exact political revenge on the former president, his businesses, and his family. Her legion of prosecutors and investigators have poured over and looked into every nook and cranny of Trump’s sprawling commercial enterprises in search of a crime.
This was all part of the plan.

During her 2018 campaign for attorney general, James proudly declared: “He should be charged with obstructing justice. I believe that the president of these United States can be indicted for criminal offenses and we would join with law enforcement and other attorneys general across the nation in removing this president from office.”
James tweeted the campaign endorsement from Rep. Maxine Waters that James would be an attorney general who “who will investigate Trump” and promised that “[t]he president of the United States has to worry about three things; Mueller, Cohen, and Tish James.”
In her election night victory speech, James boasted: “I will be shining a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings….” and before taking office repeated her threat to target Trump world: “We will use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions and that of his family as well.”

Letitia James’ Baseless Lawsuit Is Full-On Trump Derangement Syndrome

The latest salvo was a major announcement earlier this week of civil, not criminal, charges against Trump, various Trump businesses, and two of the former president’s children, based on alleged fraud dating back over a decade in connection with real estate valuations provided to lenders. James seeks to shut down the businesses and bar Trump and his family from doing business in New York.

Yet no lender is alleged to have lost money, and even The New York Times had to admit that James will have a hard time proving the case: “Property valuations are often subjective, and … all his loans are either current or were paid off, some before they were due.”

[clip]

Tish James campaigned on and conducted her office for the purpose of investigating a political opponent and those around him trying to find a crime. That is Soviet-level prosecutorial abuse where individuals are targeted not to prosecute a crime, but to sift through their lives in the hope of finding a crime.

And lacking a prosecutable crime, trying to bring them down and purge them from the economic world through a civil lawsuit.

Portland mayor Ted Wheeler LAUGHS at woman who confronts him over homelessness crisis - after she moved to the city for its progressive policies: 'I'm so sick of having politicians pander to a woke agenda that's been an epic failure'

A woman who says she moved to Portland, Oregon for its progressive values has accused the mayor of scoffing at her after she confronted him over the city's homelessness crisis.

At a virtual city council meeting on Wednesday, Gillian Rose slammed Portland's handling of its homeless population, saying the squalid encampments that are pervasive around the city make life miserable for residents.

'You have to stop enabling this,' said a visibly emotional Rose. 'I'm angry and I'm sad and I'm fed up, and I'm so sick of having politicians pander to a woke agenda that's been nothing short of an epic failure.'

Mayor Ted Wheeler, a Democrat, chuckled audibly as he responded, saying, 'thank you, you've made your point emphatically clear. Thank you for being here and sharing your perspective, we do appreciate it.'

Hillary Is Still Spreading Trump-Putin Conspiracy Theories

Here’s where Hillary reveals herself fully to be someone whose balloon never lands. You see, in her view, Putin knew he had a compliant puppet in Trump, one whom he himself had installed. So the wily Russian knew that Trump would pull the U.S. out of NATO, and that would give him a free hand to invade Ukraine. But instead, Old Joe Biden became president, and so the dastardly Putin was stopped in his tracks, and Ukraine was never invaded. Of course, Putin did invade Ukraine while Biden was president, so that can’t be right; perhaps Hillary means that if she had been elected in 2020, rather than Biden or Trump, Putin, scared to death of Mrs. Bill Clinton, would never have dared invade Ukraine.

Whatever Hillary may mean, the facts are undeniable: during the Obama administration, Putin moved against Ukraine, seizing Crimea. During the Trump administration, Putin did not move against Ukraine. During the Biden administration, Putin launched his all-out invasion of Ukraine. Yet Hillary Clinton would have us believe that the invasion would have been even worse if Trump had been president last February when the invasion began. Or something. Just as all the vaccinated people who get COVID-19 have assured us of how much worse it would have been if they hadn’t been multiply jabbed. (In that analogy, the Biden presidency becomes a COVID jab: ineffective for what it was supposed to do, and possibly lethal. How very fitting.)

Reality is, as always, different. On Feb. 22, Trump said that while he was president, he gave Putin an ultimatum. “If you move against Ukraine while I’m president, I will hit Moscow.” To this, Putin responded, “No way,” whereupon Trump responded, “All those beautiful golden turrets will be blown up.”

Are Democrats patriots?

Jonathan Capehart, a Washington Post columnist and MSNBC host, is arguing that Democrats need to retake the high ground on patriotism. It really bugs him that people associate patriotism with Republicans, while it is the Democrats who are the real patriots.

Yeah right. I have no idea why anybody would think that Democrat leaders and commentators aren’t patriotic. Maybe because of statements like this:

Capehart’s argument is not uncommon, of course. Democrats have been frustrated by the fact that Republicans have been more successful with patriotic messaging than they since at least the 60’s. Kennedy clearly was very patriotic with his messaging, but ever since Democrats have been associated with criticizing America, not embracing it. Clinton did pretty well connecting with average Americans and seems to like us, but Democrats in general seem to prefer global elites and global values to American ones.

The Democrat elite, at least, cannot be considered all that patriotic. Disdaining American history, American values, and the American people is totally on brand for them. Democrats kneel, they apologize, they insist that America is systemically racist, sexist, homophobic, imperialist, filled with deplorables, and just generally inferior to just about everyone else.

That’s why it’s important to take a knee when the national anthem is played. It is a way to show love and respect for America, or something.

The Left hates America, and spends a lot of time explaining to us precisely why this is so. Even a mainstream Democrat like Andrew Cuomo–who was everybody’s hero until #metoo caught up with him, insisted that America was never that great.

Who Are the Neofascists?

"You saw the rally in Ohio the other night," added Clinton, the former first lady, senator and secretary of state. "Trump is there ranting and raving for more than an hour, and you have these rows of young men with their arms raised." She didn't quite say it, but the implied message was clear: These crazy Trump supporters wanted to say, "Heil Hitler."

At least President Joe Biden doesn't call his political adversaries fascists. They are only "semifascists." What a relief.

Aren't these the same people who have urged raising the level of civil discourse? Wasn't Biden supposed to "unify" the country with Trump out of the picture?

What is so infuriating about these slurs is that the Left doesn't even understand what a fascist is. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, fascism is "a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government." The Britannica Dictionary defines fascism as "a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government."

Let all that sink in for a minute. Who are the fascists here? A government that "controls the lives of the people." Let's see -- we have a group of politicians who shut down schools, businesses, restaurants and churches during COVID-19. A government that is now telling us what kind of light bulbs we can put in our homes, what temperature we can set our thermostat in our living rooms, what kind of car we can buy and what kind of drugs we need to be inserted into our arms.
