Rev. Al Sharpton gets giant raise, and his charity spends $1M on jets, limos

Rev. Al Sharpton’s charity nearly doubled his compensation and also shelled out close to $300,000 for private jets so that he and other bigwigs could attend “important gatherings.”

The National Action Network paid Sharpton $348,174 in 2021 as its president and CEO and gave him a hefty bonus of $278,503 — plus $22,117 worth of benefits for total compensation of $648,794, its latest tax filing shows.

The preacher’s 2020 compensation came to $347,183, which did not include a bonus.

NAN also forked over nearly $1 million on private jets and limos.

The Harlem-based nonprofit, which was founded by Sharpton in 1991 and bills itself as an activist social justice organization, continued to pay three of the reverend’s relatives. His daughter, Dominique, got $78,670 for membership work; his daughter, Ashley, took in $59,950 for social media duties and consulting; and his niece, Nikki, received $15,800 for special events.

Beyond his votes, however, is a social media footprint that sometimes crosses into rank crankery, election denialism, and attacks on various institutions of our democracy. These things are terrible and dangerous, we're often told, but certain exceptions (D) apply. For example, if you're an election conspiracy theorist, you can remain an elderstateswoman of the party in good standing, while getting very rich in the process. Or if you're an aggressive election denier, you can get celebrated and re-nominated by the party for statewide office in a key state -- or even hired as chief spokesperson for the President of the United States. Or, as it turns out, you can become one of the highest ranking party leaders in the whole country:

Astrobiologists Fret About 'Colonizing' the Universe

To that end, The College Fix has an interesting piece in which astrobiologist Jacob Haqq-Misra expresses his concern that mankind’s arrival on another planet could be more disastrous than historic. He is the author of the book “Sovereign Mars: Transforming Our Values through Space Settlement.” Essentially, he thinks that there could be future activism when it comes to the final frontier. The concern may be that we might affect another world in much the same way people impacted the Americas, Africa, and India in the past. In other words, think of it as space exploration as viewed through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Alien Lives Matter. Even the microbes. The article even quotes Rebecca Charbonneau, a U.S. National Radio Astronomy Observatory fellow, as telling Scientific American:

pace exploration is…an extension of our imperial and colonial histories. SETI [the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence] in particular carries a lot of intellectual, colonial baggage as well, especially in its use of abstract concepts like ‘civilization’ and ‘intelligence,’ concepts that have been used to enact real, physical harm on Earth.”

The article said Charbonneau is wary of the term “intelligence,” since it has been linked to genocide and eugenics. Interestingly enough, Margaret Sanger favored eugenics, and Iceland is known for aborting babies that have Downs Syndrome.

Perhaps we are not quite ready for first contact ourselves.

No love from the left for NYC Democrat Rep. Hakeem Jeffries

State Sen. Jabari Brisport, a socialist representing Brooklyn, trash-talked the five-term rep last week, tweeting that “Hakeem Jeffries started the Team Blue PAC ‘to defend incumbents facing primary challenges’.”

He went on to say that Jeffries used the PAC this year “to tip the scales” against progressive state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi’s primary challenge to Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. Maloney went on to lose his seat to Republican Mike Lawler in a major defeat for the party.

Brisport added that Jeffries “decided to endorse against a sitting progressive State Senator (Robert Jackson)” and that “Democrats who lie about their intentions in order to attack the left wing of the party should not be confirmed to lead it.”

NYC Columbia professor Sheena Iyengar accused of gender discrimination

Elizabeth Blackwell earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2017, graduating magna cum laude. After an intensive five-month interview process, Blackwell began working as a “research associate” for Sheena Iyengar, a Columbia Business School professor and author of “Art of Choosing.”

But Iyengar, 52, “insisted” Blackwell perform duties that included “personal and supportive administrative and secretarial tasks,” the complaint says. “These tasks included applying Iyengar’s makeup and booking restaurants for her romantic dates,” Blackwell said in an interview, according to the Washington Square News.

In contrast, Blackwell’s male counterpart “encountered none of the obstacles that Ms. Blackwell was forced to overcome,” the suit alleges.

Blackwell claims Iyengar soon assigned many of her research duties to the male co-worker — which were outside his program coordinator job description — because “she was a woman,” according to the lawsuit.

Blackwell accused the professor of “disturbing gender-based discrimination behavior and retaliation” in the lawsuit.

A political light bulb went on regarding Adam Schiff’s remark on CNN's "State of the Union" as reported by Breitbart' s Pam Key. In the interview, Schiff again mentioned the Russia hoax he has promoted for five years, if not longer. (Note that Dana Bash did not call Schiff on this huge lie.). With Schiff continuing to assert this gross falsehood, the Democrat Party has, for years, switched from being a loyal opposition party to priding itself as a party of the permanently-attempted coup.

How dumb of me not to have taken seriously the Democrat cries of "Resistance," as of the Trump inauguration, January 20, 2017 -- but I then understood such cries to be figurative and fanciful references of a politically romantic nature.

But where were the Republican political experts like House Speaker Paul Ryan back in early 2017 when the "Resistance" was gearing up? Alas, the anti-Trump Ryan was silently supporting the Resistance. How could the Democrats have succeeded with the Mueller probe if Ryan had spoken out forcefully against what was apparently a coup attempt to oust the legitimately-elected president?

CNN published a list of Democrats who announced that they would boycott the Trump administration. The late Rep. John Lewis, citing, in effect, the Russia hoax, refused to accept President Trump's legitimacy. Rep. Zoe Lofgren accepted the fact Trump was president, but still, would not attend his inaugural, and went on to become one of the Nine Members of the phony-baloney House Select Committee Against President Trump.

If the GOP House leadership did not recognize, five years ago, that it was opposed by the coup-attempt party, the leadership has no excuse now for failing to see the Democrats for the permanent coup-attempt party they have become. And how well to understand, now, that when the Democrats accused Russia of "sowing chaos and discord" in the U.S., the Democrats were (falsely) projecting their own bad conduct.

I would say that I'm looking forward to Schiff being booted from his powerful Committee positions to be the Ranking Member of some Agriculture Sub-Committee, but I wouldn't do that to TPD.

Alyssa Milano Keeps Digging that Hole Deeper in Effort to Attack Musk

It stands to reason that the “New leader” of Volkswagen would reject Nazism since it was after the war and the Nazis had been defeated. Plus, the “new leader” immediately after the war was British. That doesn’t change the history that the Nazis founded the company or that they used concentration camp labor and other forced labor to make the cars. It’s a silly argument that Milano is using to try to justify herself and her prior ignorance.

Beyond that, there’s nothing at all to support the claim that Musk wants to “ENABLE Nazism.”

What is Elon doing to enable Nazism? She doesn’t note one thing because there isn’t anything. Believing in and supporting free speech is the opposite of “enabling Nazism,” it’s enabling the right of all to speak. Unlike what happened with the Nazis, when the opposition was stamped out. Unlike what happened when Twitter was run by liberals when anyone who objected to whatever the liberal narrative was could be suppressed or face the ban hammer.

That’s much closer to fascism than anything Musk has ever said or done.

But to liberals, anyone who doesn’t agree with them is a “Nazi” because of that disagreement. Even someone Milano used to idolize. Part of the reason that liberals have a problem with what’s going on with Twitter is that they can’t just impose their narrative anymore — it will be challenged and people no longer suppressed for challenging it. That was the problem that Monica Lewinsky found out when she suddenly realized many people didn’t agree with her, that she was hearing other opinions on Twitter now and not just the liberal bubble.
