Life in prison or death?

If you committed a crime terrible enough to warrant either life in prison or the death penalty, which would you choose?

Also let's pretend a death penalty means you actually die instead of sitting on death row for decades until you die of natural causes.

When I went through SERE school I was told I probably would not survive as a POW, and what I told the instructor (which is sort of applicable to your inquiry) was that if that did happen, I wouldn't be taken alive.

Where? Pretty much anywhere but California I would choose prison. I'm too old and ugly for anyone to want to try and make me their girlfriend. Sweden? I'm tempted to take that offer right now except I would have to jump through the hassles to get citizenship first.

It depends...
If I have to take out a heinous monster, because my feckless justice system failed to keep it's citizens safe...
And I decided to exact that justice in an EQUALLY heinous manner...
Then I might feel like the prison system OWES me a lifetime of compensation for having to perform THEIR basic duties to keep the citizenry safe...

If I'm a serial killer, then I'm already battling a mental illness...put me out of my misery. The State shouldn't be keeping crazies alive

Well I am 81, and either doesn't bother me too much, I do get food and free health care and a place to sleep no matter which andI would probably live my life out there anyway since it takes12 or 14 years to carry out the death penalty.

After, without a doubt you did it with; DNA evidence and all, these pieces of crap should never walk free again. IMHO as someone that lost a brother to murder.
I had an evil neighbor that deserved killing...and I envisioned doing it...but if he had pushed me far enough to do it (thankfully we moved but couldn't sell out house fast because if this sociopath POS), I'd rather be put to sleep than to live in prison amongst mentally scarred and crazy psychopaths...
If I was angry enough to take a life, I'd rather die than to "live" incarcerated <

I lost my little brother to murder. I think I played a role in the 3 murderers' getting long term sentences. I believe their lengthy sentences were well deserved. The DA wanted to ask for the death penalty. I told him I didn't want that on my conscience. Two wrongs don't make a right and all that..... They are all still in prison. Today (15 years later), I believe them not walking free is their best punishment....

The question is one that really needs to be quantified. It is not a simple pick one side question that is the same for everyone. For most law abiding free people the answer would most likely be death penalty over life in prison. For criminals who have been in and out of the system and spent time in prison they most likely would chose life in prison. Some of the most hardened street criminals accept prison as just a different society. They take the challenge of becoming one of the top dogs in prison just like they do on the outside.

I don't believe people who are sentenced to death live in the General population, they are mostly sequestered alone.
They are seldom executed, but living in isolation is a greater punishment than Life.. Give them the death penalty lock them up alone for the rest of their stinking lives.
