Mark 10:46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”
52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

Ah, the symbolism.... he threw his cloak aside and came to Jesus.

I gave my daughter a "cloak" one year for Christmas. Between the wool and the lining.... it was a heavy little thing. It was warm though, and surprisingly, kind of cool in the fall and spring. The cloak would "weigh" on the body... kind of comforting. But it could be cumbersome when trying to wear a backpack or carry books. It didn't quite close without being held. There were a couple of clasps, but they didn't do much but decorate. So... when moving about the normal day... that cloak was a "burden".

So, the blind guy threw off his cloak.... the cloak that was weighing him down and burdening him.

Then that blind guy "came to Jesus" and "his faith healed him". Jesus didn't spit on the guy's face or anything. The guy was told he was healed. There was no saliva exchanged. No mud was mixed and affixed. This was a pure "coming to Jesus" event.

Check this out.... in verse 46 it says he was sitting on the street begging. Blind is useless. There were no social stopgaps back then. A blind man couldn't get a social security check. Social Security didn't come about for another 1900 years. The blind and useless had to beg. They were useless. Once the blind man found Jesus.... he could earn a living for himself.
