Luke 12:13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
14 Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” 15 Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.
16 And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.
18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’
20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.
Hubby bought me some glasses so I could crochet with black yarn. I can't see well enough to make a Wednesday Adams doll. These glasses have +250 magnification, and they have lights! I looked around my room this morning. It's so full of stuff.... I can't believe how much stuff I have accumulated. And now I have three pairs of glasses with lights to shine on all my stuff! Ah ha ha!

If God is going to judge me on the junk I have collected, well, I'm in for a long and heavy consequence. I try to get rid of it by having lots of yard sales. I sell and donate a lot of my dolls. I live in a place where everyone is old... we all have too much junk, so no one wants it [except me if it's yarn or fabric!]. I try to hide it, my closet is packed with yarn, fabric, and clothes. I've got two dolls waiting on clothes. They are dressed in a couple of baby outfits I got from the Goodwill, so I wouldn't have to have naked babies sitting around.

People die in my neighborhood all the time. You have to be over 55 years old to live here and the majority of us are well into our seventies. Their stuff becomes a real problem. One woman owed two months' rent and had no surviving relatives when she died. A few of her friends held an estate sale for her, paid off her bills with what little she had left, and divided the rest to the homeless places around here. When the woman next door died, she left an angry daughter to clean up her mess. She was a crafter and a hoarder. It took two weeks, and the dumpsters were full. Her little dog is still here. One of the neighbors took him in. He's so happy, the old lady crafter and hoarder didn't walk him much. The new owner walks him all the time. He looks fabulous.

It's not what you have that makes you happy. It's not what you leave behind that makes you shine in God's eyes.

That junk you leave behind is just more clutter on the earth! God already rinsed the human junk off the earth once. He promised not to do that anymore, but humans just collect junk.... like magpies we love anything that glitters!

Retirement would be so much clearer if we didn't accumulate so much stuff!

Life is not about stuff!
