WTF is the difference between linguine, fettuccini and spaghetti, reg, thin and/or angel hair?

Safeway has linguine on sale for $1 a box and I bought like, 3,000 of them, and it occurred to me, as I was putting my haul away, that there must be a difference, linguine must suck and I made a boo boo and I may regret this. However, I just made 'sghetti and it's awesome. So, what's the difference???

Spaghetti is spaghetti, fettuccine is flat and wider, and linguine is flat and narrow like spaghetti.

:nerd:

You like them all.

Dear Lar,

Different width noodles hold different sauces better.

YW,

Dye, the WOP

:yeahthat: I believe the rule of thumb is...the thinner the noodles, the thinner the sauce. The thicker the noodles, the thicker the sauce. Angel hair pasta works well with oil based sauces and pasta salads while the thicker noodles are for cream-based sauces.

:yay: Right.
With pasta - it's about the sauces or the fillings. Because, really, pretty much all the noodles are made the same, so they pretty much taste the same! (except for the variations of regular run of the mill pasta)

Every sauce is used with a certain pasta because of the way the sauce clings to the pasta or how the filling stays in the pasta, etc.

Good lord. How much woppier could she get?

 I wasn't on the Italy trip with her! Sheesh!

But I'm glad to know it. I am an honorary Wop, since I lived there as a kid. We loved it there so much.

You must be an Alton Brown fan. You kinda sound like him. Recipes, food and a culinary education. :-D
