My buddy just called me in a panic because she had her kitty spayed today..and several hours later the cat was not responding at all..she took her to the emergency vet and is getting her patched up (not sure what the problem is..od on anethesia?..infection that quick?) Anyway..she was slammed with an over 1500 bill in addition to the spay costs (mostly cuz they are keeping her overnight) is there any help in a situation like this? Any ideas? She is of course going to accept the bill..but i thought i would check here to help her out a little..i hate to see her so distressed..

Where did she take the cat and was was the diagnosis? Did she have the cat spayed at her regular vet or was this done through one of the "clinics." If I were her, I would speak with whoever did the procedure and advise them that there was a problem.

Was it a kitten? Older cat?

Nothing she can do really about the $$....I'm sure she had to pay it at the time of service.

Sometimes cats/kittens can have trouble with anesthesia and some a very lethargic. When my babies are done, some come back to me very, very out of it. I usually rub a little Karo syrup on their gums and try to get them to eat some wet food...even a little tuna juice to get their blood sugar up and they usually respond.

I believe she said humane society clinic of some kind..I told her to call them and let them know i suppose that's the best bet....I told her cats are resilient and she would be ok taking her home..but it seems the vet wanted to keep her (though i doubt its neccesary)..an 8 month old..so shes a decent size...But the poor girl is shelling out big bucks to save her baby...I just felt bad.
