Little Miss Sunshine is a low-budget dramedy which made big waves at the Sundance Film Festival. It stars Steve Carell, Toni Collette, and Greg Kinnear and tells the story of a dysfunctional family driving to California in a rundown VW bus. On the surface, it recalls National Lampoon's Vacation, but sets itself apart because of its tart humor and fantastic performances. Steve Carell, known to audiences for his lead roles in The 40-Year-Old Virgin and "The Office," and child actress Abigail Breslin, who played Mel Gibson's character's daughter in Signs, are especially impressive.

It might not appeal to fans of low-brow, gross-out comedy, but Little Miss Sunshine's brand of intelligent, understated humor will definitely earn it fans (including myself) and the movie's surprising emotional power will turn it into a summer crowd-pleaser. I give this film a very enthusiastic recommendation!

Too bad I was thinking of going to see this but I happen to love low-brow, gross-out comedy.

And I was thinking of asking you to see this with me... fortunately, I did not embarrass myself like that.

Thanks. Is it a woody allen flick or one like it?

No, it's not a Woody Allen movie or at all similar to his movies. This is along the lines of As Good As It Gets or Garden State. A 'mature,' if you will, mix of comedy and drama.

I loved As Good As It Gets. Awesome movie. Reminds of the family Stone

The Family Stone is another movie you could compare Little Miss Sunshine to. They're movies which mix light comedy and heartwarming dramas as opposted to just being raucous and gross the way, for example, films with Rob Schneider are.

Just watched this over the weekend. :yay: :yay:

I LOVED it, Little Miss Sunshine's grand finale performance was excellent, I had tears running down my face I was laughing so hard. It was a surprise, to put it mildly. :roflmao:

Quite Halarious ending! I thought I would die laughing. :killingme

I caught the last 45 minutes of it. I guess I'm the only one that didn't get it. My husband thought it was hilarious too. I guess I'm weird. :lmao:

Probably because you only caught the last 45 minutes of it. You need to watch from the beginning to understand all the nuances.

We watched it last night. My coworkers had built this movie up so much that I was sorta dissapointed. I did think it was funny, but I didn't die laughing or anything. All of the bus scenes were funny....especially the one when they forget Olive.
