Local slaughtering/butchering announcements?

Since the beginning of the year, I've almost stopped eating meat because of some things I've read, and I miss it.

I've seen beautiful herds of cattle down Sotterly road and other places around. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the word when these farmers are slaughtering and butchering? I'd like to treat myself and fill a freezer now and then.

Thanks

Check your PM I sent you the information for a local farmer that I bought excellent beef from at good prices.

Also check out this link - Southern Maryland Meats

There was talk about a local person who was trying to bring down a portable FDA approved slaughtering system, built into a semi trailer sort of thing. Was supposed to make it so that local meats could be produced and sold here without being sent up the road for processing and having to be frozen, whatever happened to that?

And his neighborhood had it prohibited.

Southern MD Meat Producers is the best bet. Someone just posted the link. You can purchase their meats at Homegrown Market LLC as well.

But all frozen correct? Sorry to hear that, last I had read was that he had won the zoning battle, was there a news report when they shut him down?

I am involved in the Ag community, and we have been following the situation.
And yes...the meats at Homegrown are all frozen.

I have garlic breath.
I would be interested in knowing as well. I see a few Amish farms with signs for beef, but I haven't checked them out as of yet.

The best way is to go to the St. Mary's County fair in the fall.
You can buy a Steer, Lamb, Hog or Goat.
They are all farm raised by our young 4H members. The meat is top quality locally grown.
They will send it to the slaughter house for you and give you a choice of a dozen local butchers. It comes back wrapped and ready for the freezer
You pay a little more but cannot beat the quality and your helping future farmers
