Hello, We're planning on adding a 4 season room (sunroom) on part of our existing deck. So far we like what Long Fence has to offer. Has anyone used them for a sunroom or major project? Thanks.

Priced a deck about 2 years ago. Clearly double what anyone local would charge. They have to pay for all of that advertising somehow. But I don't! :ohwell:

I used Long fence 4 years ago to install a fence and was happy with the install even tho they had a subcontractor do the work. I thought they were a little pricey at the time, but did not take the time to shop around and later when i checked around I wish I had. I called the a couple of years later to have the windows replaced in my house. A long fence sales person came out for a demo and I knew the longer she talked the more expensive it was going to be. After all was said and done the windows would be about 3,000.00 each to install yikes!! I said thanks, but no thanks. I was called later by a companany person and was told that person was new and had made a mistake and could another person came out. I liked the windows that they had so I agreed. When he came out and gave me the new price (2800.00) each I said don't even bother to go any furthur.I supposed some people would spend the ridiculous amount for a window, but stupid I am not. Went to Lowes and got siimulat windows installed for 365.00 eacd and have been very happy with results. I just think Long fence is taking advantage of alot of people who do not take time to shop. $25-30,000.00 to replace 10 windows. What do you think$

I think the rates they charge are the going rates for Montgomery County, Northern Virginia, around the beltway, etc.

When we call them down here, their rates don't change. Their subs up there just drive down here.

They are marketers. They advertise, and sell, and them sub out the labor. Lowes and Home Depot offers the same thing in their stores.

We had a fence done almost a year ago...a large fencing product. Long was about $4,000 more for the same project. We used Thomas (thanks Oz) and they wre great...but they only do fences. I think Long is way overpriced!

Go with a Local LHIC

I would suggest going to local licensed home improvement contractors and asking for quotes. Quotes are cheap [free] and their is nothing better than the piece of mind knowing that you shopped and found the best price with the best contractor.

Do make sure they are licensed in the State as a Home Improvement Contractor. They have to display their license number on their quote, business cards, and vehicles. Without the license you're at their mercy for getting the job done and it provides you with bonding protection in case they decide to walk without finishing. Also, since having the license requires the company to bond, it's a little more insurance you aren't going to have any problems like I just described.

As far as Long goes, I don't have any personal experience, but it's kind of like going to Sears and buying carpet. All they are going to do is take a price and add 15 to 20-percent {plus the financing charges and interest, if you go that route] on the price to line their pockets; then they get a local contractor to go complete the work for them.

We had them do our deck. Price around first and then negotiate. Long fence's original estimate was higher than anyone else's but we got them down 30% which then made it reasonable (they still made a bundle of course). We had a hard time finding a contractor and I employed a research organization to do the legwork to find one. The job was too big/difficult for almost all the deck contractors out there. Long Fence was the only contractor that was confident they could do the job (and get the license from the county) without any difficulty. They did a great job and I'm really happy with it.

Stop Staring!!!!!
I had Long put a 6' Privacy fence around my back yard. I had estimates from Long, Clinton and Thomas. Long was the most expensive but guaranteed their work for as long as I owned the property.

I think Thomas guaranteed for 5 and Clinton for 2. Possibly the other way around.

Anyway, After we had the Hurricane blow through, some of my posts worked loose. I called them and 2 days later they had a crew at my house. Tore the fence apart, put in brand new posts and cemented them in then replaced fence. Was as good as new. The only reason the fence even worked loose was because of the Hurricane and the fact that this part of the fence was in the lower part of my yard and was always very wet as the rain water collected there.

I am sure Clinton and Thomas back their work up but I figured a larger company like long would have the manpower and resources to get to me faster if I had issues. My wife ran a daycare and I did not want any escapees.

So the guarantee was a major factor in my decision.

We had a fence put in about 6 months ago, and we got a really good price on it, but they put it in someone else's yard! Other than THAT it was fine...

Yes I purchased a Long Fence four season sunroom 19 x 13 feet for $60K on part of my existing double deck. The windows often will not lock without some adjustments. also the roof is very noisy when it rains. This information was not mentioned, even by Better Living or Better Homes. The loud sound is heard throughout the house. I was promised and charged (in the contract) for vertical blinds installation - which was made to get the deal. However, when I asked when will I receive the measurements so to ordered (purchase the blinds) for installation my attorney had to write several letters. The underneath of the room will be left somewhat opened for birds' nests, snakes, and bee hives. I settled by foregoing the blinds to have the underneath area closed-in with a special sheeting material. I was informed by Long fence that they never cover the bottom of sunroom underneath the desk area. Oh, by the way I was also charged for other features which I had to stand guard to ensure that the work was done. Long fence installed an outdated Motel heat/air conditioner without an automatic shut off that had to be almost disassembled to adjust the temperature and it would never shut off. I paid for a STAR energy efficient system. Although the inspector had not entered the house, Long Fence, Inc presented computer printed documentation that the electrical hookup had passed inspection. (Long Fence was to install a certain number of electrical outlets). Good Luck with the Capital Heights office.

I have had two experiences with them. Both Bad. A neighbor and I decided to share the cost of a fence. 9,000 for a sixty foot section. I told my neighbor that was not acceptable to me. He wanted fence and went ahead and purchased by himself. I replaced the front portion on my side so it all would match. 950.00 for a gate and six feet of fence. Next experience was when I wanted to replace all of my windows with double pane so I could elininate storm windows. A sales person came outand gave a very prolonged demonstration and wrote up a proposal THIRTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!for ten windows. I said not a chance!.Iwas then contacted a couple of days later my a "manager" and he said the person was new and had quoted me incorrectly. I asked what the amount should have been TWENTY-EIGHT THOUSAND, but I could finance it. Well thank you very much. to make a "Long" story short went to Lowe's and priced windows that I wanted and had their contractor quote price. Total cost $4500.00.
Just telling what I ran into with Long
