Have you thought of going through a rescue?I'm in search of a puppy for my family. We are a pitbull family so that would be the most ideal, but willing to consider other breeds. Please PM me if you or someone you know is looking for a home for a puppy.

Save a pup.
yes, the rescues seem to have a lot of pits.....good idea DoWhat
Second Hope deals with a lot of Pibbles and there are plenty at Tri-County (which need to be taken by a rescue first). If you need help with it send a PM
Humane Society. They have plenty of pitties.

And they can also give you a truthful synopsis of personality and behavior traits which can help you select an animal that may be a good fit for your family situation.Though wanting an animal is noble, I am very leery of people that know there are Rescues out there, but opt to get a free one from somebody else. If the money the Rescues charge is too much in their opinion, I have a problem with that. Animals are expensive, but considering when you adopt from a Rescue, all animals are spayed & neutered, micro chipped, and UTD on Immunizations, I think they are wormed also. So you get a healthy animal that doesn't need to get anything done for one full year! Unless they get sick.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I've come to my senses about the puppy thing... after thinking it over for a while, I decided it would be better to get a slightly older dog. I was actually contacted by someone who needed to re-home their dog and didn't want to put her in a shelter. She's a 6 month old chow/german shepherd mix and she is so adorable! We're excited to welcome her into our family. We were going to go up to BARCS soon and adopt a dog but this girl contacted me and I think it was meant to be. We might not be getting her from a shelter but we are saving her from ending up in one!

Great point Kom! Chow, and Shepard mix can come with some unsavory behaviors. Congratulations Lunette! I'm sure your pup will be just fine. Please, go through obedience training with your new dog, especially if you are not entirely sure of the breed characteristics.
