What exactly type of riding are you looking to do? Ride on a road, or ride on trails?

If you want to drive, thre is the B&A (Baltimore & Annapolis), it is a paved bike trail, very popular on the weekends, but a nice flat trail.

Then up in VA, the W&OD trail, that is also paved and sorta flat, a few hills.

If you want to ride in St. Mary's, go down to Pt. Lookout off season, and ride down there. Park by the fishing area, and ride down to the lighthouse.

Ride bikes in St. Mary's college, up around St. Mary's City.

Also another place you could ride around is up in Cheseapeake Beach. They have a small bike path that runs along the pier, it is right on the water. If you do ride on the road, pick roads with wide shoulders(at least 5 feet), that way if your son does weave a bit, it gives him some leeway.

The B&A trail is really a good trail to ride on. When I have ridden on it, there are tons of familes. They give a max speed of 15 mph for bikes, (which stinks, becaues I can get up to 18 mph on the nice flat areas).
