We have a beautiful dog who is crate trained, house broken, loves dogs and is not food aggressive. We have had him since he was a puppy and he is now almost 4 years old. Unfortunately he has recently shown signs of fear aggression that can not be tolerated in a house with a 2 year old. He only acts out of fear which would normally be manageable but I'm terrified he will snap at the kids. At the same time we just can't face having to put him down. He's been a really good dog and he deserves a chance. I would love to find our dog a home with someone who would be able to work through his fear issues. He is a fancy mutt but they call him an Alapaha Blue Blooded Bulldog. He is 85lbs but thiinks he is a lap dog. All shots are up to date at All Kinds Veterinary Hospital. I would not feel comfortable giving him to someone with kids. If you or someone you know would be interested in giving our dog a good home please let me know.

No offense, but this is why you hear so many stories about "pitbulls"...because people have no clue what they are talking about.

To the OP, have you tried the Humane Society? Second Hope?

Help me out here
Why would I give a dog a chance when his own people won't?

OP, honest question and I am not meaning anything bad towards your post. I am just wondering why after 4 years and you have raised this dog as a pup, why is it now showing fear aggression???

thats what I was thinking.... and chances are it may have more to do with lack of proper training/dog understanding what human wants.

I would seek out a REPUTABLE trainer for and evaluation of the situation, either to continue on training or to pass on to a new owner.

But at least they will be informed what the fault is. It almost sounds like a lack of confidence/lack of socialization.

Or it could be that it's an unpredictable pitbull that has just now gotten it into its doggy head to maim and kill.

"But...but...he was always such a nice dog...."

Sad...yet another bull dog breed....big, powerful jaws and NOW you want to get rid of him after having him as a pup (4 years)???? What did you do for the first 2 years? Lock him in a crate?

Has he been neutered? And does he get the necessary exercise a dog of that size needs?

... and that doesnt include just letting him out back.
Of course not. An 80+ pound dog needs a good hour to two of walking every day (not strolling) at a good pace. Got to burn up the energy or it will be released in possibly a not so pleasant manner.

 My 60+ lbs mutt would EAT my face off if I walked her that long.

She started "fake coughing/hacking" the other day because I was walking too far.

I have a very good clue what I'm talking about, and have pictures to back it up. So there

I'm not a pitbull fan. Never will be. My opinion won't change. You have yours (opinion that is), I'll keep mine and I'll live happily ever after in my non-putbull home, you can keep sleeping with one eye open

Mental issues in humans don't always present themselves in infancy or childhood. Often times they present in late teens/early adulthood. I expect the same happens for other species as well.

and seeing that this dog breed was breed for working purpose.... well thats the problem many people have with their dogs.

they dont understand the breed. they get "this" breed because its cool, they like the look, looking for a social status dog, they think it will scare people off BUT they dont understand the breed nor do they do they dog justice.

I do have several dogs.... ALL but 1 of those dogs are high drive working dogs. And yes they all get their fair share of exercise.... maybe not all at once but thru out the week on a rotation. Also you may not have to walk or run them but at least stimulate their brains.... that will tire them out even more. I do scent work with all of them.... so they all get a chance to do something. Even working on basic obedience that you have learned thru a reputable trainer (so you know how to problem solve issues).... this will tire them out fast as well.

I also make sure i keep up on their socialization so they can go into public with no issues. If you slack on this .. issues will creep up! Trust me!

I always tell folks.... your dog is only as good as what you put into your dog.

so if you pay for training... and only work with your dog an hour here and an hour there.... and after class is over you never work on it again... WELL.. the dog will not be crisp and good...

but if you work almost every day with your dog.... take it different places and work with it... then you will have a stable, reliable and well-rounded dog.

No, because you just lumped a bulldog into a "pitbull type dog".

You are doing the same thing the media does. Classify any large, muscular dog into a "pitbull".

If you had a clue, you'd know that APBTs aren't supposed to be that big. Mine is less than 50 lbs and 4 years old.'

But you go on ahead using that really reliable main stream media everyone complains about to back your opinion. :yay:

I quote "A PITBULL LOOKING DOG"

She's claiming she doesn't know what the breed is (hahahahahahahhahaha). YOU brought in the issue when you said pitbull get a bad rap because people don't understand what they are talking about. I just said it was a pitbull looking dog. I don't know what her dog is either.
