Looking for help w/ Compaq Proliant 1600

Hi,

I got a deal on a Compaq Proliant 1600 (I thought!). It's a dual processor with a SCSI bus and three 4.2GB disks.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how to create logical drives.

I've even got two versions of the SmartStart configuration stuff, but none of it works. It looks like most of the Array Configuration Utility stuff is designed to work under NT. I'm trying to install Linux (preferably SuSE SLOX or if I can't get that to work, then RH 9).

I can't run the ACU from the CD or system partition; it always asks for the diskettes. I created the diskettes but they're not bootable at all! They appear to be a windows self-extracting archive

Does anyone have any experience with these things? I've probably spent 20 hours on it to date, with no luck, other than booting into Knoppix which is pretty useless!

I've worn out my fingers and brain searching Google for information and none of it seems to apply -- I must be doing something very wrong!!!

I'll gladly buy you a case of your favorite beer if you can come over and educate me on how the SmartStart nonsense works!

Thanks,

I think you should be able to hit F8 at boot and you should be able to create logical drives from there to set up your array.
