JPS, I know that you said that you were looking for an Endocrinologist in St Mary's County. I'm not familiar with Docs over there, but if you don't find one that you like,Annapolis Endocrinology has an Office at: 205 Steeple Chase Drive, Suite # 307, in Prince Frederick Maryland. Their number is: (410) 286-8782. I believe they are located in the Offices behind Taco Bell, and McDonald's. We refer patients to them, and I've only heard GOOD things about them.

Annaplois Endocrinology sucks ass! I don't like them at all :boo: They NEVER had my blood work results when I showed up for my appointment, so I always had to wait another 30 minutes plus for them to track that down, and then to doc (some woman, don't remember her name, but I don't like her) saw me for all of 15 seconds. Never anwsered any questions I had. She would just look at my chart, up my meds and was done with me :boo: :boo:

Good luck trying to get an appointment with O'Keefe or her NP. They aren't seeing any new patients.

I went to O’keefe about 6 years ago…she sucked. She does not treat patients on natural thyroid medicine and only talks to you for a few minutes. Most Endocrinologist don’t like natural thyroid medicine for some reason…it’s only been around for the last 120 years. I would recommend finding a GYN or GP that specializes in hormone issues and menopause. I know of a couple in Alexandria that are awesome. I’m on such a high dose of thyroid medicine that the doctors in SoMD that I’ve seen in the past would have a heart attack…….I’m far from being hyper. When you call the doctors ask if they:

1. Prescribe Natural thyroid medicine (Armour, NT Thyroid, Nature Thyroid, etc)
2. Do they test FREE T3 and FREE T4? (not total T3 and T4)
3. What are their thoughts on the TSH test? (TSH is a moot test when on natural thyroid meds)

You need to education yourself on your thyroid issue. I would recommend reading all you can. I’ve found that many doctors get offended by an educated patient…...but you have to be your own advocate. Start by reading Thyroid Mistreatment, Hypothyroidism Scandals, and Thyroid Treatment Problems | Stop The Thyroid Madness This site also has a list of good doctors for treating thyroid problems. There are also a few good Yahoo.com groups out there that are very supportive. Best of luck to you!

This statement right here is SO true. This is one reason I do not like Dorata (or however you spell her name). She is like this. I went in fully armed, because mine is some other things with IF and not so much my thyroid..and she didnt like it. When she spouted I needed to get certain bw, and I told her I just had and gave her the level amounts, along with when it was tested and other such items, she just looked at me and said "well I need them done again for me" and I came back with I was not paying out of pocket for them when I just had them done. I told her I would do the ones that hadn't been done, but she did not like that either.

THEN, on top of that, she wrote me off and said that I was diabetic (which I have been tested for on all levels numerous times, etc) and that had to be the end all to the issues of me not getting pg- which was crap.. but whatever... so because she is the only RE apparently down here- I had to go to her. Gah

Don't waste your time down here. I go to Dr. Michael Thompson at George Washington University. Love him. He spends quality time with you, listens to you, and does not make you feel rushed.
I have had thryoid disease for over 13 years now, and spent about the first 10 years messing with doctors in southern maryland. My first appointment with Dr. Thompson, he told me so much that the other doctors never even bothered to tell me and sent me for more testing that I should have had done years ago.

I highly recommend him, and I'm hard to please. :1bdz:

Good luck!! Thyroid issues are a never ending battle.

Dr O'Keefe

Dr O'Keefe is great! I've been a patient of hers for going on 5 years and have experienced thyroid issues to thyroid cancer. She has been awesome with my treatment and follow up! I can't say enough good things about her!!! I've had a large amount of dealings with physicians in this area and DC and she by far is outstanding! When there were things she couldnt help with she would refer you to specialist in DC who could.... AWESOME DOCTOR!!

Gosh, that's terrible to hear that your Doctors treat you like that. People do have to be their own Advocates in this day & age. You would think the Doctors would appreciate that, especially with Medicine being a Treat em, and street em kind of thing these days. I wish it were like the "Good old Days" again. Jameo, again..I am really sorry to hear of your bad Visit with Annapolis Endocrinology. I really mean it when I say that until today, I've never heard anything but GOOD about them. I guess all Practices have Docs that should reassess what profession they're in, and maybe change it.
