Los Angeles trains collide, causing 'carnage' - International Herald Tribune
LOS ANGELES: A freight train collided with a rush-hour commuter train in suburban Los Angeles on Friday, killing or critically injuring at least 15 people and sending scores to the hospital.
The crash happened in the Chatsworth neighborhood of Los Angeles, north of downtown in the San Fernando Valley, just before 4:30 p.m.
"The carnage is significant," said Zev Yaroslavsky, a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
Dr. Marc Eckstein, medical director for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said 135 people were transported to hospitals, about 85 of them in serious or critical condition, The Associated Press reported.
