Low Carb

Doing research, I'm hungry and want to go get something to eat. While researching Lo-Carb Fast Food, I notice a blurb about McDonalds salads, my stand by lo-carb meal.

Their Ceasar Salad has 5 grms of carbs, not bad..

BUT when you put the chicken (that is supposed to be ZERO carbs) you add 30 carbs to the meal.. ALL filler, and "enhancements" that McDs adds to their chicken..

Now the article didn't specify if it was the grilled chicken (I get the Bacon, Chicken and Ranch salad w/ grilled chicken) or if it was their fried chicken but they didn't mention the breading, just the filler and enhancements so I'm GUESSING the grilled chicken??

How deflating.. back to the drawing board to find me lunch..

Probably sugar in the marinade, if I had to guess.

FYI, Chik-Fil-A has unbreaded grilled nuggets that are really good and 0 carbs. It's on their kids menu but you can get just an order of them.

I settled for Rice King Chicken and Mushroom.. didn't even have to leave the base..

FURTHER investigation seems to say I'm OK with the McD's Bacon Ranch salad.. Their grilled chicken has less than 10 grams of carbs..

My only complaint now is McDs doesn't have Bleu Cheese dressing, only Ranch.. so I bring it to my office (my VERY non-offensive office) to eat where I have a secret stash of Bleu Cheese dressing.. no crumbles thoug..

My new favorite "fast food-low carb" meal is to get a bunless cheeseburger from Five Guys. I load it up with lettuce, tom, mushrooms, onions  It KILLS me to walk out without a greasy bag of fries, but their burgers are big enough that I know I'll have plenty.

My other go-to's if I'm in a pinch are "naked" or no-breading wings from Pizza Hut/Papa Johns or today I got a nice Greek Gyro salad from the local greek deli by my work. :buddies:

Will five guys put it into a bowl or something to eat it in??

You can get a low Carb Double Whopper with Cheese at BK.. they serve it in a bowl, a little extra lettuce, and all the normal fixins.. tomato, pickle.. It's actually pretty darn good.. I tried to order it at Arundel Mills, and the guy looked at me like I grew two heads..

Breakfast, BK and McD you can order their breakfast sammiches as platters, but beware, the McD scrambled egges have a LOT more carbs than they should..

SUPPOSEDLY McDs has "Beef Protein Platters" too, though I've never tried to order one, as they aren't displayed on their menues..

Well usually I just hold out my hand....

:buddies: J/K they usually ask me if I want a "bowl" or a wrap. I say bowl and that just means a small aluminum foil type container. All the fixin's are "free" at Five Guys so I just add as many as I want and it kind of becomes a Cheeseburger Salad-type deal. They're even nice enough to put the lettuce and tom to the side of the burger in the "bowl" so its not all wilted and soggy by the time I get back to work. (I can't actually eat this meal any where near the restaurant or I will walk out with that bag of fries...:killingme)

You can also get their hot dogs the same way: bunless. I did that one time too! Delicious but without a bun, I feel like I need 2 dogs to make a meal, and I feel like a cheeseburger is a better deal for around the same price as 2 dogs. Its right on their menu! I promise you won't get too many weird looks when you ask for it bunless!

But they have Ranch and it's not fat-free so it's less than 1 net carb.
