Due to weather.
Due to the forecasted inclement weather, and in the interest of public safety, the Town of Leonardtown and Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department in coordination with the emergency response team announce the difficult decision to cancel the Friday, November 25, 2022 Christmas on the Square event.

However, Santa Claus is still planning to arrive in Leonardtown to light the Christmas Tree on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. with the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department. There are also many other holiday festivities taking place throughout the next few weeks in Town.

Rain in the AM, CLEAR BY EVENING.

Leonardtown sure can't catch a break this year, first the Veteran's Day Parade and now this.

Right now here it's stopped raining and the sun is out.

If I may ...
For your consideration ...

Maybe they should have hired postal people to do the tree lighting? They work through wind, rain, snow, ice, heat, and cold.

Other than that, is seems that people in Leonardtown are tuning in to a bunch of pussies.

That was kind of my point last night. Another one of those "saying it without saying it" moments. Sun here too and there are hours yet to go before the lighting.

In fairness, they do start setting all this up very early in the day. I do think they called the cancellation too early though.

Santa is still going to light the tree this evening. I thought they made the call too soon at first. Then I remembered the volunteers start setting all of it up starting early in the morning.

Yeah, maybe I was a bit critical, but as an armchair manager, seems like they could have gotten pretty much everything done. Stopped drizzling by 10am. I guess what got me was the "interest of public safety" comment. A drizzle and clouds is now a concern for safety?

Guessing it was just a way of saying "we want a bigger turnout for our local businesses"

Maybe there is a need for getting better weather info. Both times a day or 2 before the event they called the events off only to have nice weather on those days.

Maybe the Witch of the West was coming?
