The Coming of the Kingdom of God

Luke 17:20 Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”[c]

22 Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. 23 People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them. 24 For the Son of Man in his day[d] will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

26 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

28 “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

30 “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. 31 On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. 32 Remember Lot’s wife! 33 Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it. 34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.” [36] [e]

37 “Where, Lord?” they asked.

He replied, “Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather.”

e.Luke 17:36 Some manuscripts include here words similar to Matt. 24:40.

What I'm reading here is that when the end does come.... and I'm talking the end of the world as we know it... it will be sudden, violent, and unmistakable.

I'm sure, tho, the media covering the end will try to dilute the event. They'll say it's a freak accident of nature or a virus gone global.

When it happens, some of those who have put off the faith will know that the time to act is right now. They'll still be left behind because the instant will have passed but they will be here at the end knowing that they made a horrible mistake by waiting too long.

The ones "taken" it appears are the "bad" people. Look at Mat 24:27-42. Matthew includes (v37) days of Noah... The bad are taken and the "Good" left behind.

Other than that, the Lords return will not be a secret. There is no 1 1/2 coming. There is a "Second" coming of our Lord. He will be known to all.

BTW,
It's been a long time since I've posted here, I see you post something (twice) every day. ...?

I don't think it's the Good that are left behind. See I'm a Pre-Trib believer and I figure He's going to meet us in the air... then those on earth will be left alive to go through the tribulation.... Like Charles Stanley preaches....

I try to post every morning before 6:45 AM with verses from the Gospels... then if I have time... I'll post something later in the day....

You may not be aware, depending on which Churches you have attended but, the "Rapture" (secret taking away of believers) was an unheard of belief in the christian church until a man (teachings of men here) named Charles Nelson Darby came along an began spreading this "teaching". Darby was the founder (I think, or the one who really got the movement going) of the "Plymouth Brethren" SAYSF Bible church in lexington park, Grace Brethren (Waldorf), etc. are somewhat tied to this founding movement. I used to attend SAYSF years ago and learned the early history of the movement. It was around 1825-28 that he began to form his theology. I googled him and also found that Charles Spurgeon (another famous preacher) was in "critical" of this theology as well. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Darby_(evangelist))

So, if this teaching didn't arrive on the scene until the mid 1800's wouldn't that lead an "average" soul to think wow Eph 4:14 Has real meaning that not to many folks are aware of. Eph 4:14 "so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful wiles."

That's why Christ built His Church the way he did and that he promised that He would never abandon it. Christ appointed his apostle's, they in turn passed down (Apostolic teaching) to faithful men...etc. The true faith and doctrine is still the same and with us today. It's not "thought up in 1830". The scriptures do say that we (the Church who are alive) will be caught up in the air. There is no time line given, no blow by blow account. At the second coming of Christ (no 1 1/2, invented by Darby) the whole earth will know. For some eternal life, others...

Today's Gospel Reading

Gospel MT 16:24-28

Jesus said to his disciples,
“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,
take up his cross, and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world
and forfeit his life?
Or what can one give in exchange for his life?
For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory,
and then he will repay each according to his conduct.
Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here
who will not taste death
until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.”

Let's look at the verses again and put them back in context...

The Coming of the Kingdom of God

20 Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”[c]

37 “Where, Lord?” they asked.

He replied, “Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather.”

See.... to me the Bible says He's going to take me. What scares me is one I love may be left behind to suffer. I don't care when God decided to allow the verses to be understood and explained. It looks perfectly clear to me now.... but as many of you know... there was a time when I could not even read the Bible let alone read it so clearly.... others are still searching... like me...
