Got the new Nikon D90 last week. I haven't had a chance to get it out in nice conditions yet, but got a chance to check the high ISO performance last night. Here are a few from Eagle One flyout.

The D90 has video mode as well. Don't know if it will work picking it off my sight. I can't tell from work.

Was just looking at this camera on Saturday.

I want to go Nikon as all the 'stuff' I have now is Nikon.. BUT if none of it is compatible with the old no reason to stay Nikon. BUT can't find any stand out on the web.. All the comparisons are pretty much even between Nikon and comparitive Canon, and even Sony.

The D90 supports the older lenses. The D40, D40X, and D60 are the only ones so far that do not support the functions of past lenses. I was using a older 35-70mm AF-S F2.8 last night for these shots.

I have the OLD FE.. Almost 30 years old, and still works great..

have to check to see what lenses I have. I know I got rid of the Vivitar 70 - 210mm..

Have about 50 Cokin filters to play with.

Actually, you know, I only have probably 2 lenses to be concerned about, not enough that it should probably sway me one way or the other..

BG, we're going SHOPPIN!!

I am sure no matter what way you go brand wise, you will be happy. We always want more, but do fine with what we have.

Did you have a filter on your lens that gave you the 'halo' effect around the lights??

No, those were taken last night aroun 8:30 in pretty dark conditions, so the Halo is coming from the shutter speed being low. I was at 1/10 in the one of the firetruck, and the others mostly were between 1 and 2 seconds.

Looks great, J! Was just playing with the D90 they have on disply in Best Buy yesterday, seems like a huge improvement all around over my current D80.

Keep your hands off of MY camera..

I jumped from the D50 to the D90 so it is an even bigger jump for me.

A few things I like....

1. The live view is cool! I like that if I put the camera in Monochrome and turn on Live View I see it in B&W. I think this will help with starting to see what makes good B&W pictures and what doesn't.

2. Lower Noise at Higher ISO is the best! Plus ISO is displayed in the view finder!

3. I can use my SB600 off camera now!!!!

4. Frames per second is almost twice what I had before but I wish it was a little faster.

5. Like the D80 it has the D-Lighting and some filters built in for processing that I think are cool. Under Filter Effects there is one called Cross Screen that is a star filter.

Last Video is pretty cool to have, even if its 24 fps

I'd like to see the helo in daytime.

24fps??

I've seen video where the rotor rotation and the FPS were synched where it made the helo look like it was a 'fixed wing' rotary aircraft.

Im sure you've taken more photos with the D90, post some up for us!

I was reading an article on Ken Rockwell's site on high ISO noise comparison between the D3, D300, D90, and D200. Thought it was pretty interesting the D90 @ ISO 3200 has nearly the same quality as the D3 while the D300 was worse as the NR smoothed over quite a bit of detail in an effort to reduce noise and the D200 was very noisy with loss of detail and color.
