I've had one for a few years and love it. No problems or complaints whatsoever. :yay:

ETA: My fat ass cat did sit on it last year and I had to take it up to the Apple Store to have something or other fixed. :ohwell:

The things I like best about it are ~ A very rigid metal frame that is also a heat sink, no cooling fan to fail as the entire case dissipates the heat. It never gets hot only mildly warm under the most demanding applications (encoding video).

Never had to fix it it always works like the day it was bought. There are no known viruses to infect the osx 6.6 operating system. There are only a hand full of spyware that can infect one and there is a fix for them.

Drawback is they are more expensive but worth every penny in my opinion as they just plain work.
If you have a windows only applications then you will need “Parallels 6” to run them or some other VM.

You get spoiled not having to wait for the computer to finish booting up.

Whether you go to the store or order it online... make sure to get your 10% education discount (if she's enrolled in a school, she should qualify).

This *should* link you to the education store where prices are already marked down: http://store.apple.com/us-k12

I love my macbook. I've had it for 5 years. Only one problem.... the hard-drive crashed. I took it to the mac store (Yes, all the way up in Annapolis...) and fully expected to pay for the problem to be fixed because it wasn't under warranty, but because mine was an earlier model and they knew it was an existing problem, they fixed it for free. They even replaced the white casing around the keyboard as there was a little chip in it... Oh, and it came back with the new operating system... again free. So yeah, it's in Annapolis, but I will happily drive there for the service I got.

Even though mine is still running fine and does everything I want it to do, I'm still anxious to get a 13 in. Macbook Pro, but I'm waiting for something to happen to this one so I have a reason to justify the purchase.... it could be awhile!

If she needs it for photography then Mac is the best way to go. Photoshop runs smooth as silk on a Mac. If you already have PS for windows CS 3 or 4 then you can do a cross platform upgrade to CS5 for about 150$.

Only if you bought the standalone program.

I bought the Design Standard CS3 suite in 2008. Recently, I checked into the upgrade for Photoshop CS5. Turns out I cannot upgrade just PS because the version I have is part of the bundle. One of those Apple oddities.
