A 28-year-old man jumped to his death at the Grand Canyon Skywalk on Saturday, prompting officials to shut down the tourist attraction.

The unidentified man climbed over a safety barrier at the Skywalk – a tourist spot on the Hualapai reservation, located outside Grand Canyon National Park – around 4:30 p.m., a spokesperson said.

I'm actually surprised some dysfunctional couple hasn't hurled a spouse off of that thing yet.

Probably shut it down until an investigation, it should be open shortly.
No reason to close it down over one person desperate to die.

One of my fondest memories of visiting the Grand Canyon was when we were walking along the rim and happened upon a park ranger who was telling tales of the canyon to anyone that cared to stop and listen. As he was talking, a few in the crowd gasped and we all turned to see what they were gawking at. Three young men had jumped down from the rim onto a rock ledge... we gather to get a better view, on a dare or just because... we don't know why. The ranger turned back to us and said, "This is America. We cannot stop you from doing something stupid. All we can do is call in body recovery after the fact if necessary." Then he proceeded to go on with his story. THAT tremendously enhanced the beauty and thrill of the visit.

It wasn't long after our visit when the woman fell off the rim while bypassing one of the barrier bars so she could get a better picture.

I made sure I was far enough in that a good gust of wind wouldn't topple me over the edge. :bigfatchicken:

It would really piss me off if I spent that money - and it's expensive - and drove all that way to do the Skywalk and they shut it down because some dumbass decided to jump.
