Man poisoned wife's Rice Krispies with chemical, police say - latimes.com

An Azusa man was arrested by police for allegedly poisoning his wife's breakfast cereal.

Azusa police allege that 43-year-old Fernando Porras put the cleaning chemical product Goof Off into his wife's Rice Krispies cereal last week. She became ill, and he took her to the hospital, police said. The woman is expected to survive.

He is being held on $1 million bail and is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday on attempted murder charged.

The woman's 17-year-old daughter smelled something funny in the cereal, she said in an interview with KCBS-TV.

“She goes, ‘Something’s in it, something’s in it,’” Fernanda Porras told the station, quoting her mother. “So I went and picked it up and when I saw what was in the cup, I could smell it and I was like ‘Oh my gosh, this is a chemical.’ ”

He is being held on $1 million bail and is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday on attempted murder charges.

A woman would have prepared a much more appetizing meal. Goof Off really?

I saw statistics once that women are much more likely to kill with poison while men are more likely to do it violently. I thought that it was interesting.
