Manchin's luxury yacht may be investigated

The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust asked the Senate ethics committee to investigate Democratic Senator Joe Manchin for failing to disclose his ownership of a limited liability company that holds a $700,000 yacht he lives on while he is in Washington.

If the committee takes up the complaint, Manchin will be the first West Virginian in Congress to be investigated for ethics violations in eight years.

Now the Washington Free Beacon has reported, "Manchin bought a 65-foot yacht, which he named 'Almost Heaven,' in October 2013 for $700,000. Manchin later transferred ownership of the yacht to Country Roads Marine LLC — a West Virginia-based LLC — that Manchin and his wife incorporated and are listed as members and officers, records show. Manchin docks the boat on the Potomac River in Southeast D.C. and resides in it while he is in the city.

"However, since 2013, Manchin has failed to report ownership of Country Roads Marine LLC, which FACT says is a 'serious violation of Senate Ethics Rules,' given they require senators to list 'outside compensation, holdings, transactions, liabilities, positions held and gifts received' on their financial disclosure reports."

That will teach him to vote for Kavanaugh.
This is so fugging obvious.

Lol. The advocate for the WV working man.

Kind of dumb to hide it. Not much money as places to live in DC go.

That doesn't sound like he hid so much as just didn't report.

His political family does have a history of shady financial dealings though.

There is no rule in congress that says that you can't own a boat. In this case, its his second home. The problem for a socialist is that they need to at least pretend that they are like real people and champions of the workers and miners cause. And in that setting, a 700k boat is not good press.

Just a basic google search suggests that this issue came up in his campaigns a couple of times before (some articles going back to 2005). Apparently the boat is more than his residence, its a place for senators from both sides of the aisle to pour back a couple of drinks and do the nations business (and probably a couple of hookers along the way). All the dumber if he 'forgot' to mention it in his disclosures. Chances are, the net value of the boat is far less as the LLC probably carries a note against it (second home = mortgage interest deduction on the boat).

You guys are focusing on the boat when the actual cause for this investigation is that he voted for Kavanaugh to be confirmed.
He went against the Democrat cult and this is how they plan on nailing him for doing so.
The boat is just their tool.

More dirty politics. There would be no problem if he hadn't gone against the cult.

That boat is cheaper than most homes he could buy in that general area. Makes a lot of sense to me, from a purely financial aspect. Of course he should have reported it...no reason not to.

And this story is the reason that a good chunk of my Sunday ride out to the Far Gohn brewery in Culpepper was done to the tune of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" :)

Yeah, that was my first thought - it says it's where he LIVES while in DC. A LOT cheaper than the multi-million brownstones in DC.

...and its not even a "luxury yacht"; that description is just crap reporting. 700K does not buy much yacht. We've seen clients that carried 700K boats on their yachts as tenders.

Pics I've now seen -

It looks like more of a houseboat than a yacht - and Politifact says he bought it second hand for about 220k.

Someone may SAY it's worth more - but it's a pittance compared to how some of these guys roll.

Crap biased reporting trying to make a cheap houseboat sound like something it isn't. The left-liberal types sucking that pablum up don't know the difference..and that's what the attack dogs are counting on.

We've got our stabilization equipment on a number of yachts..the cheapest one cost nearly 3 million to build yet is "only" 57 feet long. I'd say the average cost of the yachts we've been involved with is something around 10-12 million dollars, but there are many that cost ten times that much.

CAN'T really blame the left for this one - they may not like that he voted for Kavanaugh, but it's Republicans who have been raising the biggest stink.

Vote or not, they'd still love to have that West Virginia seat.

STILL think Manchin ought to drop the pretext and just switch parties.
