Dear Friends of Marlow Heights 60s and 70s:

“Nobody Bothers Me!”

Regarding those Jhoon Rhee TV commercials, with his two little kids proclaiming, “Nobody bothers me!”, Jhoon Rhee is still around and has done very well for himself. You can go to his site and see a couple of vintage TV commercials that ran during the late 60s/early 70s:

Jhoon Rhee Taekwondo, Martial Arts, Self Defense training. Jhoon Rhee Institute of Tae Kwon Do

I’ve had problems opening the video in Firefox and Opera, so unless you come up with a work around, just use Internet Explorer.

“Red Barn”, reunion.

The owner of the official Red Barn web site, Rich, has planned a reunion next June and September, at a former Red Barn in Bradford, Pennsylvania. More details to follow, but I believe this ‘Barn is a clone of the original, with many of the original menu items still available albeit slightly renamed. If you want a Big Barney, Barn Buster, or that Red Barn fried chicken, you might want to check this out.

Guest Book

We now have 273 entries in the Guest Book. This is a great place to read first person accounts of how it was back in Marlow Heights and vicinity during the 60s and 70s, as well as a means to possibly look up old friends and classmates.

We moved from Hillcrest Heights in 1972. I can't believe my sisters and I walked to Iverson Mall when it first opened. We used to walk to the library, GC Murphy, Holy Family etc.

:howdy: Lived and worked in Marlow Heights, Hillcrest Heights and Temple Hills areas from 1970 - 1983, before moving back to Southern Maryland.

Remember also being able to walk by myself to Iverson Mall, and the Marlow Heights Shopping Center in the early 70's.

Who was your best friend? I have 3 older brothers and 1 older sister. 2 oldest graduated from Potomac, other brother and sister went to Stoddard, before moving here. I went to Overlook Elem and Christian school on St. Barnabas(sp) across from Gandy Goose.

Seems there a lot of old Hillcrest people around here in St. Mary's

I lived on 25th Avenue in Hillcrest Heights. The final straw that made my parents move to Clinton was when my oldest brother was robbed at gunpoint while making a phone call in front of GC Murphys.

GC Murphys, use to go there to buy 45's, and get ice cream. The freedom we had back then.

We moved from SE DC (anacostia) and I remember going to Marlow Heights and Eastover!!! That was like a drive to the country back then!

I went to Clinton Christian - then when we moved to SOMD (in 77) I went finished elementary in CC then did Milton Somers and LaPlata HS...

We lived between Croyst (SP?) Toyota and Hechingers/Ourisman Chevrolet... I remember when they built the Toyota Dealership and K-Mart...

I was really young, like around 8 y/o - but we use to ride our bikes from Harford Hills to the K-Mart! I would not take that ride in a car :sarcasm: - but you get the idea!

That would be fun. I am usually home during the day except for picking up my youngest at the end of the school day.
