Finding old friends: This site has reunited some people with old friends and classmates, people they haven't seen or heard from in years. I just wanted to pass on a personal experiences that I hope will induce you to use the site to find some of your own old friends, classmates, and such. A very, very good boyhood friend of mine, Billy Hull, lived up the street from me in Deer Park Heights (those duplexes off of Raleigh Road) and we spent many countless hours all over the neighborhood. I lost touch with Billy, and the last time I heard from him was back in the Summer of '75. Recently, a mutual buddy of ours, Dennis Spears, ran into Billy and told him that I was trying to get in touch with him. Not having my number, he told Billy to go to my site. Billy did, and sent me an email. From there we got together and met in front of Steak in a Sack. We walked through Marlow Heights Shopping Center, and cruised through Hecht's (soon to be a Macy's, and no, the candy counter is long gone). What a trip down Memory Lane. We also stopped by the old Sandymount Elementary (since the mid 80s a private Christian academy, but the original building is still intact). We also stopped by our old neighborhood in Deer Park Heights and walked up and down those old sidewalks we ran up and down, played street football, raised Hell, etc. We also stopped by parents of another old friend, Brian Sebenaler, who is an officer with the Navy SEALS. Brian's parents have lived in that house on Akron Street since 1961 and the house looks just the same as it did back in the 60s and 70s.
Miss Doyle, Sandymount: Miss Doyle was my 5th grade teacher at Sandymount Elementary. A few months ago, the mother of one of my classmates, Rick Sampson, wrote to me and told me that Miss Doyle was still living in the area. I looked her up and gave her a call. It was a very nostalgic conversation, taking me back to the 1968-1969 school year. Amazingly, Miss Doyle said she remembered me--I don't know if that's good or bad!
Silver Hill Elementary. Anyone attend Silver Hill elementary school? A regular site visitor, Frank H., did, and contributed a class photo from Mrs. Heasley's 1970 3rd grade class. Check it out, and if any of you have any information on this long closed school, I'd love to hear from you, as Internet searches reveal little information. Of course if you have photos that would be great, too.

Drive-In Theaters. Remember the numerous drive-in theaters that were in the area, such as the ABC, Super Chief, 301 Waldorf, Hillside, and Corral Hills (I won't mention the Central Avenue drive-in, because we all remember what sort of films they showed there!)? Hard to believe it was only 20 years ago that most of those theaters were still in operation. Here's a site that has details on all the old drive-in theaters we remember:

Might Mo Reunion: I was told that the organizers of the Mighty Mo/Hot Shoppes reunion were considering having another get together in October, due to the popularity of the reunion held this past June. I haven't heard back from them, so I don't know if this out of cycle reunion will be held or not. If I do hear something, though, I'll let everyone know ASAP. I also heard that there was supposedly a Marriott hotel in the area that still makes Mighty Mo's at the restaurant inside it. I also understand that some Bob's Big Boy restaurants (at one time owned by Marriott) still feature Pappy Parker fried chicken. If anyone can confirm this about the Mighty Mo's or Pappy Parker fried chicken, let me know so I can spread the word to everyone. Speaking of Mighty Mo's and Hot Shoppes, I've been going through the Marriott Hot Shoppes 60-year anniversary cookbook (which you can find on Amazon, among other places--http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0961925701/002-4167571-8473637?n=283155). I already knew how to make Mighty Mo's/Royal Burgers, but I've also been able to do a fair facsimile of a Teen Twist and BBQ Pork sandwiches. It was a bit tough finding the "twist" rolls for the Teen Twist, but I found something similar at the Fort Meade Commissary, minus the sesame seeds. Also at the same place I found rolls that were similar to the ones used for the BBQ pork sandwiches. I don't remember those from personal experience, but those that did have told me that the rolls had a slightly sweet taste to them. Anyway, you can easily get this book for under $10, and cook up some retro creations.

Do you remember Camp Letts? I remember our 6th grade class at Sandymount going, and apparently it was a tradition for schools in the area then.

Updated the, "Whatever Happened To...?, pages. Check it out and see if you recognize any of the names.

Marlow Heights (and vicinity!) History: Added a local map of the Marlow/Hillcrest Heights area, which shows Raleigh Road dead-ending before Olson Street. Many of you probably remember that up until 1971 or 1972 there was a footbridge where Raleigh Road dead-ended, which was the only means to get across the creek there (unless, of course, you went the other direction, St. Barnabas Road to 28th Avenue, to St. Clair Drive, then on to Olson Street). Remember running through the "tunnels"?
Guest Book: We've got 175 entries now, and that's a lot of people from the area that have stopped by. There are really great memories and recollections, so it makes for some good nostalgic reading. You might also recognize someone. By the way, someone asked me where the Guest Book is. It's on the site's home page, about half way down the page on the left, in a Marlow Heights Shopping Center sign photo ("Guest Book...Click Here").

DC Area TV Commercials of the 60s and 70s: I'll make my usual request here for any information on sources of DC area TV commercials of the 60s and 70s, as I've yet to come up with anything. If I ever do find legal copies of these commercials, I would like to put them up on the site here. Not interested in commercials that were aired nationwide, just the ones that were unique to our area, such as Ourisman Chevrolet (that blonde they used to bring in from California to tell us, "You always get your way, at Ourisman Chevrolet!"), Ralph Brown Buick-Opel ("Nooooooooobody!"), Mann's Potato Chips (actually a five second voice over I believe on WMAL Channel 7 at station break), or White Cap (a brief voice over like Mann's, and I believe this was some sort of detergent).
Keep the memories alive,
