Cyber Cop
Dear Friends of Marlow Heights 60s and 70s:

Potomac Class of '76 held their 30-year reunion September 16, at the Radisson Old Town Alexandria. I was there with my wife, Maria, and had a great time. I really enjoyed seeing so many classmates and friends that I haven't seen in over 30 years. As far as reunion turnouts go, I'm not sure how ours compared, because I don't know how many were in the final graduating class. A rough estimate, though, would be that approximately 100 people were in attendance. It was great to see so many old faces from Stoddert Junior High, as well as Sandymount Elementary. Especially so for old classmates at Sandymount, such as Peggy and Susan Glenn. For Stoddert, Susan DePalma was on hand, and taping everyone with her video cam, and Laura Gubisch was there as well. I also enjoyed seeing Steve Lund and his wife. To go further back, I saw Nancy Blankenship, who didn't attend Sandymount or Stoddert, but I remembered her from when I lived in the Dennis Grove Apartments back in the mid 60s. I don't recall if we attended Valley View or Barnaby Manor elementary schools at the time, but it was great seeing an old classmate from 40 years ago.

Speaking of Potomac, I was fortunate to have run into one of our old teachers there at the reunion, Mrs. Norwood. She actually started Potomac the same year we all entered the school (1973), and is still teaching there today. Anyway, I told her about my desire to find an old Potomac yearbook for my own. She checked around, and even though she couldn't find one from our graduating year of '76, she did find one from '74, which was our Sophomore year at Potomac. Thanks for much, Mrs. Norwood!

Holy Family '75 apparently held their 30-year reunion last year, but I thought I was told that they were having another get together soon. If anyone has any specifics on this, write me back.

Holy Family '76 will have their 30-year reunion October 4, at the Comfort Inn BWI Airport. Email Lisa (Snead) Saunders at Lisa_Saunders@choicehotels.com for more info.

Might Mo Reunion: I was told that the organizers of the Mighty Mo/Hot Shoppes reunion were considering having another get together in October, due to the popularity of the reunion held this past June. I haven't heard back from them, so I don't know if this out of cycle reunion will be held or not. If I do hear something, though, I'll let everyone know ASAP.

Guest Book: We've got 175 entries now, and that's a lot of people from the area that have stopped by. However, we haven't had any new entries since the beginning of August. Pass the site info on to your friends, old classmates, and family, and encourage them to submit entries. There are really great memories and recollections, so it makes for some good nostalgic reading. You might also recognize someone. By the way, someone asked me where the Guest Book is. It's on the site's home page, about half way down the page on the left, in a Marlow Heights Shopping Center sign photo ("Guest Book...Click Here").

DC Area TV Commercials of the 60s and 70s: I'll make my ongoing request here for any information on sources of DC area TV commercials of the 60s and 70s, as I've yet to come up with anything. If I ever do find legal copies of these commercials, I would like to put them up on the site here. Not interested in commercials that were aired nationwide, just the ones that were unique to our area, such as Ourisman Chevrolet (that blonde they used to bring in from California to tell us, "You always get your way, at Ourisman Chevrolet!"), Ralph Brown Buick-Opel ("Nooooooooobody!"), Mann's Potato Chips (actually a five second voice over I believe on WMAL Channel 7 at station break), or White Cap (a brief voice over like Mann's, and I believe this was some sort of detergent).

Finally, I ask that you pass my email address on to your friends, old classmates, and family. I've had some bad luck in the last few months, with losing my Outlook distribution list for the site, so I may have lost some email addresses in the process. Please pass the newsletter on, and even if it goes to people I currently have on file, it may reach new people or those whose addresses I've had inadvertently deleted. The best address to use is: cissp@spamcop.net

By the way, to anyone that wondered what the, "cissp", stands for, it is a professional certification, which stands for Certified Information Systems Security Professional.
