Martin won't go full time

OK, so NASCAR's Ironman — and current Nextel Cup points leader — is willing to walk away from 618 consecutive starts at Bristol. He says he's not concerned with winning the Nextel Cup. He says he's "living the dream." And his bossman/friend Jay Frye says, "He's our Roger Clemens. He can play as much or as little as he wants."

That was on my mind after Sunday too! He did so well in both the races, I just thought maybe he would change his mind.

I think a lot of people thought he'd reconsider. He seems to be really happy with a part-time schedule though.

Hey Speedy, Im wasn't much of fan of Martin, but would like to see the old fart do well, we old farts have to stick together. Should have been driving a Chevy all along, maybe things would have been different in the past years.

Ford :boo:

I'm going to pretend that I didn't read your post.

It ain't over till it's over. Martin was going to retire twice already, wasn't he?

Very true. But I think he's going to stick to his guns this year. :bawl:

I can't remember where I saw it, but there is a schedule posted on a site with all the races that Mark is going to be in this year. I can't find it now. Does anyone know if he's racing Dover in September?

I really wish he'd reconsider. I've always liked Mark ever since I started watching racing. He came so close to winning the Cup in 2002, in which I feel NASCAR gave it away to Tony Stewart, in 1994, and in 1998. Mark's going to leave on top, not as a drive who left as a last resort.

I remember when he won like 4 races in a row in 1993. I don't think anybody can do that with the level of competition the way it is now.
