LEONARDTOWN, MD – Maryland’s Local Education Agencies (LEAs) must minimally conduct a comprehensive assessment of their school wellness policy once every three years as described in 7 CFR 210.31(e); referred to as the Triennial Assessment.
St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) had 100% participation from its member schools on the Maryland Wellness Policies and Practices Project (MWPPP) survey. SMCPS scored higher than the state average on nearly every measure related to comprehensiveness and strength of our School Wellness Policy including:
The St. Mary’s County School Health Council functions in an advisory capacity to the Board of Education with regard to Wellness Policy implementation and compliance. The School Health Council represents a partnership between the public schools, the St. Mary’s County Health Department, community agencies, and the general public. St. Mary’s County Public Schools will actively inform families and public annually about the Wellness Policy, including its content, any updates to the policy, and its implementation status.
