ANNAPOLIS, MD—Maryland officials continue to monitor key COVID-19 health metrics, and urge residents to follow public health guidelines and refrain from traveling to states experiencing spikes and outbreaks. The statewide seven-day positivity rate is now 4.69% and the daily positivity rate dropped to 4.33%. Maryland has conducted over one million COVID-19 tests, including 24,220 over the last 24 hours.

“We are monitoring all of the numbers very closely and continue to be concerned about a potential resurgence of this virus in our region,” said Governor Hogan. “As we have from the beginning, we will continue to follow the advice of our doctors and public health experts, and we will not hesitate to take statewide actions if and when we deem them to be necessary. But I want to again make very clear to the people of Maryland—you can help stop the spread of COVID-19 by wearing masks and continuing to follow the public health guidelines.”

Over One Million COVID-19 Tests, 13.3% of Population Tested. In total, Maryland has now conducted 1,040,442 COVID-19 tests, including 24,220 tests over the last 24 hours. 804,350 Marylanders have now been tested for COVID-19—representing 13.3% of the state’s population.

Positivity Rate is 4.69%. The state’s seven-day average positivity rate is now 4.69%, and the daily positivity rate dropped to 4.33%.

Total Current Hospitalizations Are 533. There are 533 current total COVID-19 hospitalizations, with 143 ICU beds in use. State officials are continuing to monitor the increase in hospitalizations statewide.

More Than 60% of New Cases are Marylanders Under 40. 61.9% of the state’s new COVID-19 cases are Marylanders under the age of 40. The positivity rate among Marylanders under 35 (6.79%) is 86% higher than the positivity rate for Marylanders age 35 and older (3.65%).

Rising Positivity Rate In Dorchester County Potentially Linked to Crab Picking Houses. State officials are monitoring the rising positivity rate in Dorchester County (7.27%). The increase is potentially linked to local crab picking houses, where widespread testing is underway.

22 of 24 Jurisdictions Have Met 10% Testing Goal. Queen Anne’s County became the 22nd of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions to meet the state’s goal of testing 10% of their populations. To help address any shortages and delays, state officials continue to make unlimited quantities of tests available to any jurisdiction that needs them.
