(BALTIMORE, MD) – Troopers arrested a Baltimore man Friday evening after a multi-state investigation developed evidence supporting child pornography and related charges.

The suspect is identified as Neal Patrick Garith, 39, of Baltimore, Maryland. Garith is charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography. He is also facing related child pornography charges in Oklahoma. He is being held without bond at the Baltimore City Detention Center.

In June 2022, the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit received an investigative referral from Homeland Security Investigations in Oklahoma to assume a child exploitation investigation initiated by detectives of the Garvin County, Oklahoma Sheriff’s Office. Garith was wanted on an outstanding Oklahoma arrest warrant for charges that included distribution of child pornography, conspiracy to distribute child pornography and violations of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Maryland State Police, with assistance from Baltimore Police and Homeland Security Investigations, arrested Garith at the 400 block of East 30th Street in Baltimore. Investigators seized electronic devices from the suspect and during a subsequent search warrant at the suspect’s Baltimore residence. Preliminary forensic analysis by MSP Digital Forensic Examiners revealed multiple child pornography files on the suspect’s electronic devices. Troopers are continuing to work with Garvin County Sheriff’s Office detectives as the investigation continues.

The Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit coordinates the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. This is a combined law enforcement effort involving police departments across Maryland that is made possible in part due to grant funds provided by the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth and Victim Services and by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. Task force investigators focus on identifying those involved in child pornography via the Internet and other related crimes that victimize children.

If you have information relating to the identity of a child that may have been victimized by Garith, please contact Maryland State Police at 410-694-4773.

The investigation continues …
