State Police Maryland State Police Continue Fatal Collision Investigation In Prince George’s County

(College Park, MD) Shortly after 11:00 p.m. last night, the Maryland State Police, College Park Barrack responded to a single vehicle motorcycle collision on the outer-loop of the Washington Beltway IS-495/95 ramp to northbound IS-95, College Park, Prince George’s County, Maryland. The driver and sole occupant of the motorcycle was transported to the University of Maryland, Prince George’s Hospital Center with life threatening injuries. He later succumb to his injuries. Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a motorcycle was traveling on the ramp, lost control and struck the left guardrail. There was no indication of alcohol by the driver at this time.

The driver of the 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle was identified as Stuart Woods, 39, Beltsville, MD. Next of kin was notified.

A member of the Maryland State Police, Crash Team conducted the investigation. Two lanes were closed for approximately two hours. The State Highway Administration handled the lane closures. The Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the hospital and handled the medical portion of the collision.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation but it seems that speed was a contributing factor in this collision. We urge all citizens to travel at the posted speed limit, use signals, check your blind spots and give your full attention to your driving when traveling on the roadway. Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to contact the Maryland State Police, College Park Barrack. The investigation is continuing.
