(DENTON, MD) – The Maryland State Police CRASH team is actively investigating a fatal crash yesterday that claimed the life of a Caroline County woman.
The deceased is identified as Sheila Beasley, 51, of Denton, Maryland. Beasley was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS personnel. She was the front seat passenger in a 2008 Pontiac Vibe at the time of the incident.
The driver of the 2008 Pontiac Vibe is identified as Jessica Lynn Beasley, 27, of Denton, Maryland. Jessica was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries sustained in the crash. Police believe Jessica and Sheila are related.
The other vehicle involved is a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban. Roger Rivers, 47, of Riverdale, Maryland was the driver. He had four other occupants with him in the Chevrolet Suburban at the time of the incident. All five occupants were transported by ambulance to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries sustained in the crash.
A 2015 Dodge Dart was traveling behind the Chevrolet Suburban. The driver of the Dodge, a 16-year old girl, attempted to avoid the crash and swerved into debris in the roadway. She was also transported from the scene by ambulance.
The preliminary investigation by the Maryland State Police Crash Team indicates Jessica Beasley was traveling east on Route 404 in the Pontiac Vibe shortly after 12 noon yesterday. For reasons unknown at this time, she traveled into the westbound lane into oncoming traffic and was struck by the Chevrolet Suburban.
The roadway was closed during the investigation while traffic detours were set up by the Maryland Department of Transportation Coordinated Highways Action Response Team and State Highway Administration. Troopers from the Easton Barrack responded to the crash along with members of the Maryland State Police CRASH team. Personnel from the Denton Volunteer Fire Department and deputies from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene to assist.
Upon completion of the crash investigation, it will be presented to the Caroline County State’s Attorney’s Office for review. Charges are pending.
