Topic of Release: Sobriety Checkpoint
On Saturday, September 21, 2019 State Troopers from the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack assisted by the State Highway Administration, participated in a joint effort to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Southbound U.S. Route 301 prior to Cedarville Road, Brandywine, Prince George’s County, Maryland. During the checkpoint 650 cars were checked, 1 individual was directed to the side of the road for further testing and one vehicle was directed to the side of the road for a probable cause search resulting in the issuance of a civil citation for possession of marijuana less than 10 grams.
The checkpoint was within the guidelines for sobriety checkpoint initiatives and the goal was to educate drivers of the dangers associated with drinking and driving. Specific locations for targeted enforcement were determined based on data associated with alcohol-related crashes and DUI arrest.
The Maryland State Police remind all citizens that if you plan on consuming alcoholic beverages, you should also plan on having a designated driver. We encourage everyone to obey all traffic laws to make our roads and highways safer for all travelers.
