Narrative:


On 2/25/2019 at approximately 1350 hours, the Frederick Police Department (FPD) was in pursuit of a black Subaru Forester for a felonious theft at the Home Depot on US-40. FPD units pursued the Subaru onto S/B US-15 at Jefferson Technology Way and after losing contact, FPD units terminated the pursuit but continued an active search for the vehicle. A B.O.L.O. was dispatched while troopers were closing in on the area. A trooper spotted the vehicle and maneuvered his cruiser in a manner to impede the suspect’s continuation; this was in an area not open to the public and not open to normal traffic flow. The suspect backed his vehicle and then proceeded forward, intentionally ramming the trooper’s vehicle, driving over the hood, and continuing to flee. The trooper who was struck initiated a pursuit along with additional troopers, Frederick Police officers, and Frederick County deputies.

The suspect fled onto US-340, Rt. 180 and Rt. 17, crashing into a bridge abutment at Catoctin Creek but continued with severe damage. Brunswick Police Department deployed stop sticks that proved successful. The suspect continued on flat tires and then struck the rear of a semi tractor and trailer on US -17 before coming to a stop and being apprehended in the same area.

The trooper who was struck refused medical transport and no other injuries were reported.

One Maryland State Police vehicle received disabling damage from being struck by the suspect vehicle and a second sustained minor damage from debris that came off of the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect, Thomas Alexander McDonald Jr (55) of Silver Spring, MD, was apprehended an taken to Frederick County central booking on charges including first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment and numerous additional traffic charges are pending.
