(ELKTON, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating after a public school bus with 10 students on board was rear-ended this morning in Cecil County by a tractor-trailer.
The preliminary investigation indicates that around 8:25 a.m. this morning, the North East Barrack received a call for a crash involving a school bus at westbound Telegraph Road east of Fairview Road in Elkton, Maryland. Troopers reported that the bus was stopped with its red lights flashing as it picked up Calvert Elementary School students. The school bus was struck in the rear by a tractor-trailer which had to be towed from the travel portion of the roadway after the crash due to severe front end damage.
The truck driver, identified as Anthony Martin, 30, of Stevens, Pennsylvania was cited with failure to control speed to avoid collision. Investigators say the crash was not weather-related.
The 10 students were transported to school on another school bus. None of the students nor either of the drivers was injured as a result of the crash.
