FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN PRINCE GEORGE’S CO.

Date and Time: 04/22/2020 at approximately 2339 hours

Location: Southbound MD Route 5 (Branch Avenue) at MD Route 301 (Crain Highway)



Vehicle(s):
V1: MD Registration 23424CJ; Gray Dodge Challenger

V2: NJ Registration 573867R; White Ford Truck



Driver/passenger(s):
V1 Driver: Wilbert Lee Hines JR, B/M, 01/05/1982 (38), Waldorf, MD

V2 Driver: Charles Maconi Thomas 3rd, B/M, 11/19/1992 (27), Waldorf, MD



Victim(s)/Injuries:
Driver of vehicle 1 (Hines JR) pronounced deceased on scene.



Narrative:
On 04/22/2019 at approximately 2339 hours, the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack received phone calls in reference to a two vehicle accident on southbound MD Route 5 at MD Route 301. Troopers responded to the scene and located a Gray Dodge Challenger and a White Ford Truck. Preliminary investigation indicates both vehicles were traveling southbound on MD Route 5, when the Dodge Challenger struck the back of the Ford Truck. This caused the Dodge Challenger to veer off the roadway into the wood line. EMS responded to the scene and attempted to render aid to the driver of the Dodge Challenger (Hines JR) but he was pronounced deceased on scene at approximately 2357 hours. Due to the nature of the accident, members from the Maryland State Police Crash team and Commercial Vehicle unit responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
