(Clinton, Maryland)- Maryland State Police are investigating an overnight, fatal crash involving a pedestrian in Clinton that claimed the life of a Prince George’s County man.
The deceased victim is identified as Lincoln Carroll, 58, of Fort Washington, Maryland. Carroll was standing in the middle of the right lane (lane #3) at the time of the crash. Emergency medical services personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
At 11:46 p.m. last night, Prince George’s County Emergency Operations Center received a 911 call about a person laying in the roadway on northbound Branch Avenue (Route 5) south of Surratts Road. Troopers were immediate dispatched to the scene and, while responding, another 911 call was received at 11:50 that the pedestrian had been struck by a tractor trailer. The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the tractor trailer, identified as Thomas Talley, 34, of Virginia, was operating an International Tractor Trailer in lane 3 when Carroll, who was lying in the roadway, suddenly stood up in front of the truck and was struck. The driver of the tractor trailer immediately stopped, and remained on scene during the investigation. No charges against the driver are expected and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Due to the collision involving a commercial motor vehicle, the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) responded to the scene to conduct a safety inspection of the International tractor trailer. A collision resonstructionist from the Maryland State Police also responded to the incident. Maryland State Police was assisted on the scene during the investigation by Maryland State Highway Administration and Prince George’s County Fire and EMS personnel.
